Where is it $109.99? It's $150 at NCIX right now, and $114.99 at Newegg.ca

Still a good deal IMO. Not a "OMFG" deal, but worth it if you are looking for a new HDD.

asian_XL 01-11-2010 06:13 AM

damn, my 500gb is 99% full...very tempting, but it's $940hk ($127cdn) here :(

i forgot to write before/during christmas. prices generally went up 3-5% after christmss.

http://www.shopbot.ca/default.asp?kw...osition=search

112.99 at ncix (should be weekly sale price)
it was 99.99 on boxing day as a door crasher.
i picked up two 1.5gbs two weeks before christmas at 108.99 each.

edit:
109.99 is on the dell website (referring to the title)

I just upgraded to a 2TB Barracuda XT for my Windows drive, and a pair of 1GB 7200.12's for my storage partition (RAID1).

It's funny because my Windows drive never gets more than 100GB stored on it... Well at least it's fast! ;)

twitchyzero 01-11-2010 08:53 AM

off topic but when are the HDD taht support sata 6.0Gb/s coming out? I'm assuming they're compatible with the current SATA mobo as well?

Yes, it's the drive that I just referred to (Barracuda XT).

I will be publishing a review this week or next week.

Short story: SATA 6G is almost completely useless today.

there's another one here that's 3 bucks more but no wait time.

SuperSlowSS 01-11-2010 10:34 AM

I must be the only one going down on size.. 500gb -> 160gb. :p
but it sure is fast and silent.

asian_XL 01-11-2010 03:07 PM

what do you guys do with a 2T windows drive?

I only have a 160gb primary HD and 500gb HD for storage.

The 1.5TB drives always go on sale. It's a smoking deal if it goes under $100 though. I picked up 2x2TB hitachi's for $128 after rebate at NCIX.

FN-2199 01-11-2010 04:09 PM

Holy crap!

I snatched up my 1TB for $89.99 at NCIX a couple months ago. 100 bucks is tempting though..

Cman333 01-11-2010 05:22 PM

shieeeeet

I JUSSSSSSSST bought mine last week for $120

Oh well.... good deal

Damn that's crazzzzy

I was looking at the 2TB's and they were all so expensive.

partition it? following that unproven urban myth (or i haven't seen any proof, but it makes sense) by wiping and creating a first partition of say < 200GB for the OS it'll be placed on the outer edge of the platter meaning faster seek times, etc. then just fill the rest with shit all.

!MiKrofT 01-11-2010 06:08 PM

haha. Thing is they're still sitting boxed up in an NCIX bag on the floor. Lazy to install.

Audi-Quattro 01-11-2010 07:10 PM

I got this HDD from ncix couple months back for $99
and I know the lowest it has gone to was black Friday for $89.
So this isn't really amazing if you check ncix deals regularly.

I actually just tested that theory recently. It actually works, a bit. Mostly BS though.

Fact is, I only need about 100GB on my Windows drive, and I am not about to store my important data on a single drive. I'll just use the spare space for a 2nd redundancy to my storage drives with a backup program.

Jon_39 01-14-2010 09:31 AM

I thought the 1.5tb and 2tb are sort of hit or miss, because they are all new drives... I bought 2 1tb hdds when they first were available awhile ago, and they died on me less than a month later.

wasabisashimi 01-14-2010 09:53 AM

i paid $69 for WD caviar black 640gb, i dont know if that is a good deal or not,, i hope i am not ripped off?

I thought the average computer is barely hitting 1.5Gbps speed yet so 6Gbps would be deemed useless?
