Overclocking a i7 D0 and P6T board. I haven't overclocked since the celerons first came out. Can someone post a how to for overclocking an i7 D0 chip and P6T board? nothing crazy maybe just into the 3's that's stable. 3.4? 3.5? upgraded air cooling. Thanks |
You will need to get a new CPU heatsink for sure if you are planning on doing any OCing. The i7 runs ridiculously hot (run coretemp, and you will know what I mean). Anything below 3.6 should be doable with air. Anything >3.6 you will need water-cooling IMO. As for OCing guide for the i7: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/25...clocking-guide What I did: got a new CPU heatsink, OC it to 3.2 (very mild OC). Temperature remains the same as when it was at 2.66 w/stock heatsink. -KC |
Thanks, yeah I got a noctura fan. my current system is a core D so yeah not up to date with this new stuff haha. |
pickin up a C0 today :( too bad it's not a D0.. gonna hopefully OC to 3.8 stable on nocturna fan. |
the D0 is known to overclock well from what i know, and with the noctua, you should easily get to atleast 3.8ghz with without overvolting too much. |
I just cranked up my turbo frequencies, so it only overclocks when it has to. Of ccourse it's an i7 965, so already pretty fast :) I also adjusted the settings so it uses turbo more 'freely'. As soon as the CPU load gets high, it shoots up to 3.6 GHz. |
im running a i7 920 D0 with a p6t se board i got it to 4.1ghz on air stable but because i run my computer 24/7 i lowered to 3.8ghz  i used these to help me oc by using other peoples result etc. http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...hread-183.html http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/25...rclocking-help |
also running a 920 D0 and P6T SE here with my current heatsink i'm getting ~30C on all cores @ 2.67 ghz (stock) i don't really see a need to OC the processor though? it's fast enough to run all games at high settings provided u have a decent GPU then again i am running intel turboboost which is like auto-OC in itself |
