What to do? PC experts welcome

So I bought a gaming pc a few years back from a friend and it was awesome. Super fast, everything I needed. But recently I had to reformat because I got the deadly blue screen. Couldnt do anything about it [to my knowledge]. Anyways after reformatting, it showed that it was missing TONS of drivers and the pc was super slow. I was able to find a few but not enough to fix the problem. Oh yeah, it kept freezing too. The video card and sound card is no longer supported by their companies either so I couldn't find any drivers for them. Sound card doesnt work but the video card works ok. I really want to save this computer with all of its crazy fans and junk.

Should I just buy a new motherboard that comes with all the drivers I need? Is that the only thing I need to replace? It's been a while since I tinkered around with computers. Lemme know fellas.

Any recommedations on parts? I dont do any hardcore listening so a good integrated sound card would do. If there's one with a decent integrated video card too that'd be sweet

This is what I got.

Asus A8N-SLI DELUXE motherboard
Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS
GeForce 7800 GTX

would I need to replace the processor or ram?

Just install Windows 7 from scratch. It will install all the proper drivers, and will be a lot faster than your crapware-infested current install :)

BTW, that board has onboard sound, so you don't really NEED the Audigy.

Nice old school Lian-Li case with the upside down motherboard configuration.

Even though the manufacturer may have discontinued selling the product they still should normally have firmware available to download.

A quick search on Creative's site gave me this http://support.creative.com/Products...T=CategoryID:1

btw it's good practice to move your RAM to the lowest available slot which would be the blue slot closest to your CPU.

EDIT: looks like soundy beat me to the punch

Not necessarily. I have the A8V, an AGP version of that board - the RAM has to start in the "B" slots, which are the black ones, or it won't boot.

is that just a sarcastic link to google?
i've searched and all the drivers that i've downloaded dont work.

I've worked with this board in the past as well. I thought the A1 slot was supposed to be used, but I don't remember 100% so I can't say for sure.

I gave a direct link to the GeForce drivers... if those don't work, you're either using a different version of Windows, or there's something else seriously wrong. Have you installed ALL the motherboard drivers?

Ferra 01-20-2010 08:47 AM

I am pretty sure you can still find the drivers for your video and sound card..they aren't that old.
What make is your GF 7800GTX? if you cannot find the drivers from the manuf. website, just go to nividia website.

do you have the original CD from you mobo as well? You have to install your mobo chipset & lan drivers too

lil-trip-bo 01-20-2010 09:21 AM

i lost all my cd's so yea no luck there. currently reformatting again with all new drivers. hopefully 2nd times a charm

SkinnyPupp 01-20-2010 09:26 AM

lilaznviper 01-20-2010 11:03 AM

it will fix all your problems if not 99% of your problems

hotong 01-20-2010 11:34 AM

.Renn.Sport 01-20-2010 04:35 PM

btw
thats an A8N-SLI Premium not deluxe

lil-trip-bo 01-20-2010 04:38 PM

that's what it says on the sticker on the motherboard.

i believe the sticker.

raygunpk 01-20-2010 04:54 PM

you dont need specific drivers for sound. just get soundmax, it will work on anything. at least it has for me for many computers.

How can you not believe Hyde. Everything he says is full of truth.

Just buy win7. I believe there are some in the B&S section. Or if you are a student and that $40 student deal is still on.
