Shaw remote problem

just upgraded our single Shaw HD box (motorola) to two Shaw HD-PVRs (pace) in 2 rooms thru shaw. the tech installed it since he was here installing digi phone aswell. everything was legit and hooked up to shaw properly

we have a 2 year old 42" Sharp LCD

the problem that i cant figure out for the life of me is when I hit the volume button on the shaw remote which would normally turn the TV volume down properly. in addition to turning the volume down, it turns the cable box to ch888 and opens up the PPV guide. i've tried reprograming the remote a bunch of times a few different ways using the codes. everything else works fine. i've tried all 3 of our shaw remotes, and both of the new HD-PVR boxes, and it does the same with everything. everything worked fine prior to getting the new boxes.

any ideas? i hate trying to call shaw

PS: is 888 some kind of asian lucky charm? should i buy a lotto ticket? or does that not count cuz im a whitey. :D

called shaw. they blamed it on us having a Sharp TV. also, one of our boxes are fubar. tech is coming out saturday again.

these Pace boxes (the free ones from Shaw) are starting to look like pieces of garbage. I wonder if i can trade one plus my moto HD for a moto HDPVR

oOO maybe it was actually a good choice for me to buy the motorolla hvpvr

but thats BS how they blame it on a sharp it, im using the motorolla hvpve with a sharp LCDTV and the remote works.

I THINK they send you refurbed units if you didn't fully purchase your pvr. I went through 2 diff units until they gave me a working one.
I got a sharp too and I just use the sharp remote to adjust the volume.

My guess is it's the box.

if the tech took the pvrs out from the back of his truck, most likely they're returns, or refurbished ones.

ya. our original motorola HD (no PVR) that we purchased from FS, everything worked fine.

Problem fixed

shaw tech came out again this morning.

apparently the OCP or whatever feature that Sharp has that automatically adjusts the TV brightness for the light in the room interferes with the remote signal when using the Pace boxes. so once that was turned off everything was fine.
