Help me choose MB & RAM for i3

I plan on getting a new comp based on the intel i3, but I have no clue what mb & ram to get for it. mb w/ raid would be nice, also I intend on oc'ing.

TIA

Just put your desktop model or mobo in and your will get the proper memory.

You'll be better off going with an AMD Phenom II and 785G chipset to be honest.

But if you insist, I'd recommend this board and this memory.

Why?

Why would he be better off..?

Faster, cheaper

Well I thought maybe down the road if I wanted a faster CPU getting the new intel platform was better. But I guess that goes for AMD as well, however I know next to nothing about AMD products. I guess in the end anything is an upgrade to what I have right now. I'd just like something that can be upgraded later down the road w/o upgrading everything like I have to now.

Since you're planning to go i3, is the integrated graphics important for you?

Core i3 is a niche product, intended mostly for people who want integrated graphics for HD purposes in a very small, quiet package. It is not very fast, you could get a quad-core Phenom II or even Athlon II that is faster.

You should read my review of the Core i5 for more details ;)

AMD is launching some new CPUs in 2 days that will be in your price range too. I will be getting them this week, and a review should be up next week.

wait for the new AMD 6CORE!

No, I'll be buying a vid card.

I'll research a bit more. I'd like to keep it under $1000 for the tower.

Yes, once I get a good board for the i5/i3 I will buy an i3 and overclock it, comparing it to similarly priced Phenom IIs and Athlon IIs.

AMD Introduces Some New Clarkdale Killers

willystyle 01-25-2010 01:32 PM

^ Unfortunately, the prices hasn't adjusted yet for most retailers with the new AMD CPUs.

SkinnyPupp 01-25-2010 09:08 PM

It won't take that long for it to adjust
