canucks game + DSLR = ?

Hey Guys,

I figured you guys would know, I am heading into Vancouver tomorrow for a canucks game and was hoping I could bring my D60 to the game. Is that allowed? I'll have a 50mm 1.8 attached to it if that matters at all....

Thanks in advance.

Adam.

Yes you will be allowed, 50mm is a small lens so that's no problem. But if you plan on bringing any telephoto lens I don't think they allow that.

awesome thanks, I thought because its a DSLR it might fall under some 'professional equipment' rule. So it is the lens length that determines if the camera is passable?

Unless they've very recently changed it, any camera with a removable lens is deemed "professional" and will need to be checked. Best is to just walk in and play the "oh I didn't know, I'm so sorry!" card if they bug you

Like I said in the other thread, under 75mm is OK.

I was at the game against the stars I saw person checking in his camera. When I went to see The UFC at Mandalay Bay the made me check in my DSLR.

The rules all depends on the event that you are attending. Its NHL regulation for 75mm. The canucks organization also has their own rules. I have bought a 70-200 into nucks superskills with no problem.

NHL regulation is 75mm
Nucks only events are also 75mm, but some of the hosts don't care.

Then again the white lens sorta gives it away that ur bringing in a telephoto lens

I brought my 200mm f/2.8 to the nucks open practice. They just said don't use it... so i used my 24-70 instead.

well I did email them for confirmation, so here's what they say...

"Our building policy for NHL games is that the use of flash photography, video recorders and professional camera equipment is strictly prohibited by the NHL and is only allowed with the authorization of Canucks Sports & Entertainment. Our staff are asked to have any guests with large photographic lens (75 mm or larger) or cameras with detachable lens to either take it back to their car or check it in at our Guest Services Centre at their own risk because it is prohibited by NHL."

This is 100% correct. Upon entry security will ask you to check in the camera if it doesn't meet the policies listed above. Some people have gotten their cameras inside, and if they have used them, securtiy has asked them to erase all the photos they have taken and to have their camera checked in at guest services.

Sorry to tap off this thread, but what is of interest to me for the next little while is what can be brought into Canada Hockey Place during the Olympics. I shoot for fun, all for personal use. I wouldn't want to check in my lenses. The way I see it is the only not to use flash photography is if they allow for big lenses.

they tell you 75mm is the max...
I brought my 18-200 in...security guard was telling me 75mm max...and i was like OK I wont zoom past that..

got to keep my lens...

The reason the limit it at 75mm is for the reason that the longer focal length lenses are too big and will block other peoples view...at least thats what the security guard said...

then I suppose a the tiny nikon 55-200VR might be okay? since its so small and even at 200mm its still small? just a thought. though it is by no means a fast lens at all.

I really don't think the 55-200vr would be that great at a canucks game since its a slower lens. I really don't think anyone is going to get by security with something that they are not supposted to bring. I'm sure they have seen it all by now.
