Dual vs Quad core + HD vs SSD

I now have a E7200 @3.8ghz, it's quick enough for my daily use, but I wonder how much better if I switch to quad (like Q9650 overclocked)?

also I know SSD is quick. Would I feel any difference over normal HD in daily use?

SSD would take half the time for windows to boot up

Yes and Yes. Totally worth it in both cases, if you can afford it. SSD performance varies by a lot, so make sure to buy a fast one. Check Tech Report for some reviews.

How do you guys usually use SSD drives?

2 SSD running RAID as an OS Drive?

Where would your applications go? in a regular SATA drive?

i dunno i use my ssd as a my primary boot drive.. i think having 2 ssd in raid as an os drive is overkill.. rite now as it stands my computer takes 10sec to go from boot screen to finish loading.. a few more seconds off i don't think makes too much of a difference for me..

I use a 160gb intel x25-m(g2). It is like on fire...yet so cool.
Can't go wrong with intel ssd. If you do get one, make sure you upgrade firmware to latest(v1.5). I got a nice speed boost from it.

does it look something like......this?

and if you're using Intel's, get the firmware upgrades, i think there were RAID issues. just go to the site, burn it onto a cd/dvd, set your BIOS to read your optical drive first, and follow the prompts.

So the main purpose of SSD is to serve as an OS drive right?

I run a pair of Intel SSD's, but not in RAID. One is my OS drive and the other is my application drive & swap file. Played around with RAID and although synthetic benchmarks showed big increases in performance, it didn't translate into making my machine any faster (that I could tell).

I store all my data on my server, so I don't have any other drives in my rig.

I use it for os, apps and pretty much all data... except: music, movies, photos, and app installers (which are on my portable external drive).
Basically I can pickup my laptop and travel for 2 weeks+ without the need for external drive.
