Used car buying tip?

I dunno how to create a poll,
but here is my question:
Would you prefer a more recent year used car with higher milage over an older year model with low milage?

For example:

2006 M3 with 84,000km on it or 2002 M3 with 26000km on it. Assuming price is the same and options are same.

Will things be more likely to fail on the older model regardless of its low milage? (eletrical, machanical problems)

I'll take the newer car with higher miles. Replacement parts (for the stuff that does break) are more readily available, if it's newer.

I bought a 2003 for $1000... but it had 210,000 kms on it already. It's a great car tho... nothing wrong with it.

driven less = less used = newer = 2002

assuming both have no accident, same price, You would choose older model over recent model because of the low milage?

depends what ur looking for and how much u drive...

if ur gonna switch cars soon-ish, the 2006 might have better resale value, unless u drive it a lot

if u do drive a lot and wanna resell it, i'd go for the lower mileage one, as selling a car with 175k+kms will be a pain in the ass

if after all this, u think ur gonna end up trading it in and buying/leasing a new car later, maybe the newer one

also, about 100k kms is when u gotta start diong maintenance, as well as maybe when things might start to break. So if ur gonna let go of this in a few yaers, maybe get the low one so that someone else has to deal with all that.

if ur gonna have this car for quite a long time, i'd go for the 02

also have u looked into if there are problems with certain years of bmws? Like if the 06 m3 has problems that the 02 does not? etc.

i'd go with less mileage

Depends how often it was driven.

If the older car was only driven on weekend cruises, I'd choose that one. If the owner used it as a DD but only worked 10 minutes away, I'd be worried.

it is hard to know how the car was used since its a dealer sale not private sale/
