Protect your 2-way key fob w/ polyurethane film :) Just thought I'd share a little something I came up with a few months ago.... In the past, I've always treated my keyfobs as throw-around-devices because oem keyfobs are cheap to replace. Things changed when I installed my spiffy new alarm. The thing was nice and shiny and also quite pricey to replace if broken. Anyways, I thought about how to protect it w/out having some rediculous hard shell or leather pouch around it. In the end, I came up with 3M clear bra (the stuff used on cars). I've had clear bra on my key fob for close to half a year now and the stuff still hasn't peeled off yet. It's also so invisible that you can barely tell it's on there. In addition to protecting they keyfob from scratches, it also adds a tiny bit of extra water resistance to the keyfob because the film overlaps some of the seams on the remote. Anyways, that's my two cents...sorry i didn't provide a diy on how to cut the pieces. i figured you guys can figure that out anyways. |
yeah i've been doing the same i like the screen looking mint :) |
And where did you find something as wonderful as this?? :) |
hey tats really neat where can i get the film? i wonna apply to my compustar 2 way pager |

from what i gathered, Best Skins Ever sells protectors for hand held electronic devices and their polyurethane material is also from 3m (probably just clear bra)....they don't sell any for compustar remotes but you can buy a 14"x12" sheet from them for $14.99usd+$2.25usd shipping. http://www.bestskinsever.com/servlet...ins/Categories hope that helps...if you guys are too lazy to order some...nag me enough and i might be willing to sell a sheet for $15 cad or in exchange for some other favors? (anyone have an op-500 programmer? heh) |
Doing something like this never really came to my attention until months AFTER I had my compustar alarm installed... and that was when it was too late haha. I'd definitely recommend doing something like this |
Yeah mine is looking all beat up already and it's not more than 5months old.:( |
pmed ya |
or you can go to those chinese malls(parker or something) and get screen protectors for itouch/iphone and cut it to the dimensions of your compustar remote :) cut it a little smaller so the edges dont get caught on your pocket :). iphone and itouch is the best bang for the buck since the screen is the biggest. they are $5.. if you pay more.. thats just ridonkulous |

http://cgi.ebay.com/3X-CLEAR-SCREEN-...#ht_2192wt_940 anyways, even if the richmond stores were selling polyurethane film, the BSE stuff is the same price or cheaper when comparing price per sq inch. it's also much higher quality since it's 3M material (yes, not all polyurethane films are made equal...IMO, Zagg is one of the worst but costs the most) |

as for your question about residue, 3M clear bra does not leave any residue. |
Anyone have pics of their remotes with this? I just got mine, and I'm not too keen on taking the screen protector off just yet! |
hmm so this works well on contours? i've been meaning to put a skin on my pioneer faceplate. problem was that one section curves and those plastic like covers at daiso just wouldn't cut it. i have a bse on my iphone for two years now  |
I ended up buying iphone/ipod touch screen protectors and just protecting the screen, as opposed to the whole thing. Plus, you can always cut out more in the future  |
