running rich in fuel
 

hey everyone , new to the site and looking forward to gaining some kowledge of the vehicles you are driving and hopefully look forward to maybe seeing some of you at a local meet . my 1995 mitsubishi eclipse gs is running a bit rich , well its running at 43-45 lbs of fuel pressure and it should only be runnning at 38 , what are some things you think i should look for , basically my car will rev up to about 2000 rpm then it will slowly die back down to about 900 rpm (base idle is 840-880) I have heard to try and make sure that the tube for the excess fuel is going back to the tank but have not had time to do a pinch test on it . and also some sensors may be doing this but if that was the case dont you think it would bring up a code ?

one thing that I can think of for a high fuel pressure (at idle) is a faulty fuel pressure regulator, it's possible that it's not allowing enough fuel to return to the tank thus increasing the fuel pressure before it

and is there anyway to test the fuel pressure regulator ?

remove the vacuum line from the FPR and put a vacuum gauge on it and test it at it's specified specs (you can most likely find them on dsm forums, i'm pretty sure it's different on ur 2G than my 3G) and also make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks in the intake manifold or vacuum line to the FPR because if there is a leak it could prevent the FPR from opening fully thus causing slightly higher fuel line pressure. (again, you can probably find the vacuum specs for the intake manifold at idle on the net or other forums)

EDIT: almost forgot, don't forget to temporarily plug the vacuum line that you took off the FPR when you test it, engine will run differently if you don't

one more thing it could be, clogged return line to the fuel tank

ya we did the pinch test and it came back good on the return line
