Alright thanks guys, I think I'll stay on the safe side and bump my average to at least above 80%. By the way, what do you mean by "watch the average mark drop by june to get into sfu"?

WELCOME TO SFU

Strzelec 03-25-2010 09:12 PM

From what i know they are lowering most of the requirements to get into the different faculties

RevYouUp 03-25-2010 09:32 PM

oh where did you here this from? Thanks in advance

XtC-604 03-25-2010 10:07 PM

Welcome to SoFuckingUseless :D

Strzelec 03-26-2010 09:47 AM

Its been mostly from word of mouth, so its probably not super reliable. Could always give undergrad admissions a call

G 03-26-2010 10:04 AM

Heard averages are higher for gr 12 students cause you don't have provincial-fucking-exams anymore. So basically, suck as much highschool teacher ass so you can get a higher average.... But, you should be fine.

RevYouUp 03-26-2010 09:04 PM

oh yea another question..when i applied for early admission i entered 5 marks, english, chem, physics, math, mandarin..

my top marks 1st term were:
Math,English,Physics,Mandarin

my top marks 2nd term:
Math,English,Chem,Mandarin

I kind of effed up my physics for 2nd term..will they just look at my top 4 classes for confirmation of admission or look at my physics included with it because i had an higher average with physics 1st term...so i think they used physics to calculate my average for early admission.

I took away my physics mark from the self report page already because I have an higher average with Chem 2nd term

Will they calculate my average for confirmation of admission with physics or chem 2nd term? Sorry if this read is confusing

Thanks

wuuhoo 03-27-2010 11:11 AM

^ is mandarin a provincial exam course?

if not, then it will be math, eng and the 2 sciences

if it is, then they take your 4 highest marks

normally, you should report all 5 courses on the self -report

RevYouUp 03-31-2010 07:43 PM

hmm..there arent any hot chicks in CS are there? :(

Strzelec 03-31-2010 09:11 PM

I'm so scared too! I actually applied to SFU a while ago and my marks this whole grade 12 year have been pretty low. I haven't gotten any sort of acceptance yet so I'm really nervous. I applied to the Sciences...the Science Year One course thing. I put 5 grades in for the self reporting marks section.

Math- 66%
English- 87%
Bio- 89%
Lit 12- 91% (it dropped to an 89 now)
Chem- 70%

The thing is that I have no clue which marks they will take to see if I can make it to sciences...will they use English, Math, Bio and Chem in which case my avg is around 78 % (i think) and if they do...do I have ANY remote chance of being accepted...because all my friends got early acceptance except for me :( and my only hope now is that i get accepted later on. But would a 78% be enough? And alsoo one more thing, my alternative choice was Arts...and I wanted to take an Explorations course. So for that will they look at the same four marks as the Sciences? or will they replace my crappy math mark with my Lit 12 mark which is good because then my avg is 80 something %. Becuase I dont think you need math 12 to get into the arts ...right? And what in the world is the grade requirement for Arts? I'm so confused and I'm so freaking scared that I wont get in because practically everyone i know got early acceptance and SFU is the only place I applied to

Gilgamesh 04-29-2010 02:36 PM

Sciences sfu shouldn't be that hard. Even if it is, just get into Arts. There's no shame and you can just take science courses at SFU while in the arts faculty. And btw, you should worry about your math mark. You should get a C+ or else you would have to take useless courses just to take 1st year calculus.

Awesome 05-23-2010 11:51 PM

just apply for admission to a lower faculty such as arts rather than science or business. Once you are in you can change later. That is what I did. If I applied for science or business, I wouldn't have been accepted.

Harryt 05-24-2010 01:15 AM

Honestly.. it's easy to get into anything at SFU now.

I just transferred from Langara... and it was harder there.
You needed over C for classes.

SFU, I think you need a C-

And getting in is easier... well probably for most UNI's now... they need the cash since governments are not helping with as much funding.

All I know is I got in to a school I wanted... and I still got a lot of time left to finish up!

Hey guys, I'm also a Comp. Sci. applicant for SFU (and I have also received early admission), and unfortunately, I'm at a 78% average this term. Your previous posts led me to believe that this will be just fine, and I'd end up in SFU by the fall of 2010. However, this belief has been shattered when I saw this post:

"SFU

Arts and Social Sciences - 82%
Applied Sciences - 80
Business Administration - 95 (80-94 are encouraged to complete broad-based admission)
Communication, Art & Technology - 80
Education (BGS) - 82
Environment - 80
Health Sciences - 80
Science - 80

The above admission averages are the minimum that an applicant must have.

Those that have been offered a conditional admission offer must maintain an average that is greater, or equal, to the average posted for their respective prospective faculty.

The post was found from this link: http://forum.canucks.com/topic/26826...sions-fa-2010/

I personally think that this information is bogus, as I have been on the SFU site, and the information on the top regarding the percentages were present, but the line saying "The above admission averages are the minimum that an applicant must have." was no where to be found.

Have you guys heard of anything similar to this? Were there some sort of changes made to the admission requirements for SFU? It would be awesome if anyone with any 'information or solid proof' to come up with a link that shows what was said above to be true. Thanks and best of luck to all the applicants!

Im fairly sure that is wrong. 80% average is guaranteed admission into any faculty except business and apparently arts.
http://students.sfu.ca/admission/req...nts/index.html
Look where it says broad based admission.
This has changed since fall 2009 when i started, where 80% got you into anything except business.

Your biggest worry is getting into the school, after that you can take courses regardless of faculty (for the most part) and transfer into the faculty you want.

RevYouUp 05-25-2010 03:39 PM

Update: We'll as I said earlier my 2nd term mark dropped to 78% from 80% in term 1. My friends (with 80+avg) have received emails from SFU last week stating their conditions for keeping their admission which was to keep a 70% avg. I didnt receive this email yet and now i am shitting bricks...

RevYouUp 06-08-2010 08:04 PM

GG guys I think i might of lost my offer of admission..didn't receive rejection letter yet, but chances are high....it all depends on people that reject their offer into CS
