Upgrading speakers from factory
 

I'm looking to put new speakers in my 2003 Jetta. I think 6.5" is good for all 4 and also have 4 tweeters. What would you guys recommend for a step up in speakers and what company would be good to look at?

I like a tight bass. I don't need top of the line but a good mid range speaker would be sweet, just don't know which ones to look at. Whats the best bang for your buck these days, or something to look out for used? Cheers!

We take trade-ins ant my shop, but draw the line at speakers because you never know how abused they were.

We sell Polk Audio components. They will fit your special configuration (your front doors are pretty shallow). They sound superb! You can use them on deck power and you can upgrade to up to 200 watts per channel.

Suggested retail on them is $385 a set. You can of course, have a them for less.

There's tons of speakers on the market. It all comes down to what you want and what your budget is.

We carry Morel and Focal. Their components generally start around $399 and up.

Focal's are made in France and carry a 3 year warranty. Their mid level speakers sound better than JL's top stuff at a fraction of the price.

I'd be looking to run the speakers off of my headunit, so I'd like to get a quality speaker that wouldn't be underpowered by that. I know the higher end speakers would work better with a separate amp so I probably wouldn't need to go that route.
I had been looking into some Kenwood 6.5 Excelon speakers and some entry level Hertz ones previously. I have just read about focal and Polk audio. What would be the advantages of going with one company over another (just price)? I think they would all be roughly in a similar price range, so from previous experience, just using deck power what would be worth it?
Or maybe a separate amp is the way to go.!

Everything just comes down to your preference of sound. Some people just want their speakers to handle abuse, others want it to sound as natural as possible. Everything comes down to music tastes.

Amping the speakers definately would help richen the music and make it sound fuller.

When it comes down to speakers, it really comes down to your budget and personal preference. Your best bet is to head down to a couple sponsors near you and have a listen.

Focal makes a nice entry level speaker that sounds good even off deck power. Of course amplifying them would be ideal.

If you're leaning towards Hertz, make sure not to get anything below the Energy series speakers. I used to sell Hertz and the basic ones didn't sound very good (Dieci). For a tad bit more the Energy series sounded WAY better and not so tinny.
