There are plenty of Africans in HK and southern China. Heck even one of Barack Obama's blood brothers lives in ZhenChen. Bring back old / just out of fashion crap like cell phones (they like buying new Nokias in bulk), CRT TVs etc to sell in Africa is really lucrative (no need for HD), a lot of them make 20k+ USD on each trip.. It might be peanuts in Canadian terms, but if you do that every other month.. it is tons of money in Africa. The problem is you bring in so much goods into an African country (besides your luggage allowance), you also have to grease a lot of palms.
I think if HK people play their cards right, exporting cell phones to Africa is a lot more lucrative than importing/reselling unlocked iphones to China... but the problem is most HK people are very close minded and like to just clamor for the lowest hanging fruit.
Electronic goods from HK.. and White Japanese SUV / trucks from Middle East or SE Asia are huge commodity trades in Africa.
In fact, I will wager if you walk in metropolitan areas of Shanghai, or even out skirts of HK (where rent is cheap), you see more "non chinese" visible minority than you would see in say Aberdeen Center / #3 road Richmond.
