foam baffles for door speakers? I'm not sure if anyone has used these before but do these really improve sound quality? Or is it more just for protecting the speaker from water in the doors? It seems like such small volume for say, a 6.5" speaker. Picture of foam baffle: http://www.parts-express.com/images/.../260-788_s.jpg |
Yeah I have used them before in the past mostly for protection from moisture. They are too small as far as a baffle goes - you'd be better off just sound deadening the whole door and making proper spacers for the mid. |
hmm I guess I rather just sound deaden the door. Wanna PM me some prices for some sound deadener? :D |

I've used these foam baffles myself years ago because of the water issue. It ended up kinda suffocating the speaker and making them sound pretty bad. If you have a basic basic coaxial and don't care too much about sound quality then these would do. Most speakers sound better when custom installed (sound deaden + spacers + etc). When making a spacer there's usually ways an installer can build some sort of water shield to help prevent water dripping on the back of the speaker. |

update. so i took my speakers out today and they were soaked!! omg and i put my crossovers in the doors too.. 1 year of dampness = all my terminals have corrosion SIGH! I'm gonna have to pull the gun on these baffles for the speakers and put my crossovers somewhere other then the doors. Sponsors do you sell these? |

Why don't you mount the crossovers on the inside of of the door panel (between the metal and the door card itself)? Its a lot less damp there. |

Anyone build speaker baffles with aperiodic membranes before? It's something that I've wanted to try before but never had. |
