Ideal Monitor Size? Looking to get some opinions here...I am thinking about up-sizing my current 19" LCD. It feels too small after I've been using my gf's 22" LCD for a few month. What size monitor do you guys think is the best for surfing and playing video games? I have a 46" TV in the room so I probably won't use the monitor for movies. I am thinking about going with either 22", 23.6", 25.5", 27", or 32". (regardless of size, they all have a resolution of 1920 x 1080/1200) I sit about 2ft away from my monitor..would a 25"+ LCD monitor look too big and tiring on the eyes for reading? |
27" ! |
22"! |
24 is good. Posted via RS Mobile |
I have a 24" Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP but I wish I had spent the extra $800 or so on a 30" ... 24" isn't as big as you think ... |
i use a 40" tv for a monitor and I think it's slightly on the big side. The perfect size would be 26" imo |
Whatever you get, keep the 19" as well. |
You might want to consider two screens. Use your existing 19" + a new 24" screen. It's cheaper than 27"+ screens and you still get more screen real estate. Secondly if you do game, your system better be on hell of a rig to be able to push the FPS for a 30" 2560x1600 screen. My setup is similar to this guys'. Laptop monitor + vertical 20" monitor. The vertical monitor is awesome, especially for that white girl or twanger thread! ;) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3288/...9dc525e9c7.jpg |
It depends I am suing at 20inch LCD and I find it the right size for me. Anything is too big for me when I am gamming since I have to roll my eyes to see the whole screen. Also you might want to consider is your budget and how big your desk is and the distance between you and the monitior. |
dont bother with a 30 buy two 24's and your set. dual monitors are way better than one |
I use dual monitor at work, but I don't see the need to use 2 monitors at home, but I might use the current 19" as a 2nd monitor. The thing I am worried about is getting a monitor too big is that I have to move my head around to read everything on screen. But then I also worry about getting a monitor too small that I will regret and want to replace in a few months. |
i agree with not using dual at home. i have a 24" and had a 17". the 17" was a full screen monitor so it was close to the vertical height of the 24" (16:9 ratio) but i rarely plugged in both at the same time. i find that on the 24, i don't need to maximize windows like i did with the 17 and there's enough screen space to view multiple things on screen. |
i sit a meter away from my 22" and think it's perfect. If you're sitting at a desk i wouldn't buy anything more than 26" my dad on the other hand sits like 4 1/2 ft from his 40" and it's WAYY too big. |
I use a 25.5" samsung. It's perfect that I can view multiple documents on the same screen Posted via RS Mobile |
i use a 22 samsung and sit like 2 feet away from it and its good but i need to dual monitor it inorder to write programs easier if you sit relatively close to the monitor then you shouldn't get that big since it will be hard on the eyes |
Using dual 25.5" monitors right now. I think 24" is probably the idea size for most. I sit roughly 1m away from mine and I think it's borderline too big. The other thing to take into consideration is if you stay at the 1920x1080/1200 resolution, your dot pitch will get larger as the screen size increases. With my 25.5 I notice that text isn't as crisp as it was on my 20". I think 24" puts it at just the right dot pitch for regular viewing. I go dual as I have my work PC running on one screen on a virtual machine, and my other screen is for personal/other stuff and can multitask on both. |
got a 22" but it's too fuckin small so i'm gettin myself a 37" tv to use as a montior |

30" LCD monitor... 2560x1600 is pure awesomeness. resolution is never enough. You will simply adjust yourself to it. And once you get used to certain resolution, you will simply find the limit of it. I'm now running a iMac 27"+30" Apple cinema... and I'm thinking about triple-display for my next setup. It goes like this: 1 monitor-->highest resolution possible-->2 monitor (trust me, once you are used to have whatever you do at one and then browsing at another, you will not go back)-->highest resolution possible for 2-->3 monitor (besides some awesome gaming, I am thinking have one for daily activities/work, 1 for current app and 3rd for browsing) |
24" seems just right 32" is a tad too big |

I'd give it a 7/10. Might try VMWare Server one of these days. |
If you have a 46" TV in your room already, I'd suggest going with dual 23"s.. I always prefer dual over big single anyways. |

I've got my 15" laptop (too small!) and a 23.6" display, the big guy seems almost too big as I can have a hard time reading text on it unless I sit close, but this could be due to everything being cranked down to maximize space on the laptop. The key thing with this display though is that it's 1920x1080 (1080p) and has HDMI in with built in speakers (shit) and audio out (awesome). Works great with a PS3 for gaming. After having it for a few months though I can see why people go with a 27 or so though. When I replace my desktop I'm gonna go with this 23.6" as the main screen, and one or two smaller displays on the sides for MSN/email/media player while gaming. (gonna try to get small ones so that when rotated 90 degrees it matches the height of the 23.6). |
