Rate my Rig. Advice/Opinions

So I finally got off my ass and kinda priced out a pc for myself after I realized no one was gonig to build it for me.

Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P
AMD Phenom II X2 555 Dual Core
HIS Radeon 5770 1GB
Kingston 2GB DD3 Ram x2
WD 500GB HD

this priced out to a little over 1g

After checking out my other thread I noticed this.

http://www.sonexpc.com/?mod=home&act=deal&sysoption=hom

Core i5, 4gb ram, 1tb hd, radeon 4670. without os, $749+tax.

My question is is my build worth doing over the one in the link. My budget for this rig was suppose to be 1K so I don't mind going a little over but if my rig isn't worth the 200+ over the other one I might just pick that one up and save my ass 2 bills

Opinions and advice needed... badly

I don't know much about computer no more and just kinda threw my list together

Soundy 02-08-2010 07:12 PM

What color is it?

J32A2-S 02-08-2010 07:28 PM

Is that 1K price tag taxes in or out?

I haven't heard much about the Phenoms but Intel has been doing pretty good as of late...maybe you should consider the i5.

I built myself a pretty decent i5 750 system / 4 gb DDR3 ram / ati 5850 vcard / 2 x 30GB SSD HD / case / heatsink / evga p55 ftw motherboard for about 1400 taxes in. Shave off the SSD's and heatsink, its almost the same price as the AMD system you priced out above which is not that great

Jmac 02-08-2010 08:45 PM

You're paying WAY too much for that system ...

You could easily do a mid-range quad core (Phenom X4/Core i5) for that price ...

Mr.Jay 02-09-2010 09:18 PM

Okay

Just tried my hand at this again and this is what I came up with

Intel Core i5 750 Quad Core Processor Lynnfield LGA1156 2.66GHZ 8MB Cache Retail Box

Gigabyte P55A-UD4P ATX LGA1156 P55 DDR3 2PCI-E RAID GBLAN CrossFireX SLI USB3.0 SATA3 Motherboard

G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL Ripjaws PC3-12800 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Core i5 1.5V Memory Kit

Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 725MHZ 1GB 4.0GHZ GDDR5 PCI-E 2XDVI HDMI Display Port DirectX 11 Video Card

Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black 1TB SATA2 7200RPM 4.2MS 32MB 3.5IN Dual Proc Hard Drive OEM

LG W2343T-PF 23IN 1920X1080 1080P Black LCD 5ms 30000:1 DVI VGA Monitor

Logitech Classic Keyboard 200 Spill Resistant USB Black Keyboard

Gigabyte GM-M6800 5 Button Wired Dual Lens Optical Gaming Mouse 1600DPI USB

Windows 7 64bit

Total Price according to NCIX: $1491.76

I quickly did some price matching online and calculated my price match total: $1315.67

is this a balanced rig? I kinda took a look at a few builds and just copied them pretty much.

Any help is appreciated

^ Good system but still overpriced, and you're missing a case, PSU. Might also want to get an aftermarket cooler.

Built my i7 920 / 6gb ram / HD 5850 for about $1350, taxes in

Mr.Jay 02-10-2010 06:57 AM

I forgot to add that to my list there. Here is the case I got selected but I'm not sure if the power supply will be enough

Antec Sonata III Black ATX 16IN Mid Tower Quiet Case 3X5.25 2X3.5 4X3.5IN 500W 120MM Fan

where is the turbo?

Mr.Jay 02-10-2010 05:24 PM

any useful people?

BlackV62K2 02-10-2010 05:42 PM

Shop around....I found some things cheaper on Newegg versus NCIX and vise versa. One thing I notice was CPUs are cheaper @ Newegg.

van19 02-13-2010 10:19 AM

very overpriced.
you should check out sites like tigerdirect.ca

Ikkaku 02-13-2010 11:05 AM

I think you should look around at their specials, or try to price match. Unless you're getting them to build the system (which is a waste of $50 imo) you still have the option of buying parts from different companies.

Isn't that price about right? Since there's Win 7 and a monitor in there. You might be able to save a little bit by shopping around, but won't be THAT big of a difference.

I think that's a pretty standard build right now for the i5 750, I built a similar system recently, but went with HD4890 instead, quite a bit cheaper and able to handle most of the games out there (just no DX11).

Also, you might consider getting a CPU cooler, since the i5 is a pretty good overclocker. I got a Coolermaster Hyper 212+, a good bang for the buck cooler. Since I got an Asus mobo, I used their TurboV software to do the overclocking for me with just a few clicks.

Finally, get Windows 7 PRO 64-bit using the student discount. It's $95 right now, all you need is a student email. You, friend, whoever. Just need them to forward you the confirmation link. Note: Ignore the Office 2007 offer, once you get the confirmation email, you will see the Win 7 Pro offer.

Mr.Jay 02-16-2010 08:41 AM

thx for the window7 pro link.

I keep checking sites for cheaper prices but cant seem to bring down the cost anymore

also I have no clue how to choose a case and am not sure if the power supply will be enough for this rig. This was what i was thinking but thats based just on the fact I like how it looks
