On a side note, right at the intersection of W 48th and Yukon St. near the Langara Canada line station, there was a bmw 5series(i think) and a civic coupe that were torched at around 11:15pm. Got there at 11:45 and both cars were black and burnt and the firemen were just cleaning up the area. Sucks to be the owners, they were also both parking in a no parking zone.
So what happens exactly? Will they still get covered by insurance or?
^^ those small streets are full of "residents only" or "permits required" signs. yet people will still park there, and i'm sure the home owners around there expected something like that to happen during the last two weeks.
Ah, that makes sense... I get how the residents there feel.
I was driving along Oak, and there was this car parked on the right lane on Oak and 64th or something, went in and got a Starbucks.
It was around 3pm and was obviously traffic hour. Tons of cars were backed up and forced into the other 2 lanes. Needless to say, I wanted to get off, key his fucking car and break some windows on my route... but I calmed down and went my way...
Well lets hope everyone can put this behind them and bring some of that olympic hockey confidence back to the Canucks team. We still have a long road trip to finish up. Hockey gold medal accomplished....next up Stanley Cup.
Remember at the end of last week when video surfaced of Alexander Ovechkin pushing a fan for filming him in the wake of Russia being crushed by Canada in the Olympic quarterfinals? Well, turns out he wasn't quite done being a little bitch, as this video demonstrates.
According to Hockey Independent, Ovechkin was being filmed by a correspondent for Russian network RIA Novosti, "who taped Ovechkin until he finally came up to the camera guy and added another situation to his personal Vancouver resume."
"When Evgeny Fatkin asked Ovechkin for an interview, the hockey star answered by saying 'Do you want me to break your camera?' " said the original report. "He did not wait for an answer and broke the camera display," explains Hockey Independent, who wonder if Ovechkin's recklessness may not just be part of his on-ice personality, which could ultimately hurt his image.

No clue, owners weren't there when the fire was being put out. I suspect they will be in for a surprise when they find it while probably still a bit drunk, lol.
The story I heard from a couple people that live around that neighborhood is that this guy heard an alarm go off, and he went outside to check it out and he sees these cars on fire. Then one cop car and one firetruck show up and put out the fire.
I cant comment on the insurance situation since I dont really know much about how it works. Especially since they weren't even supposed to be parked there in the first place. Yet some insurance covers fires (i think).
Anyways, I'm surprised no one else has said anything about this. There were quite a few spectators taking photos, but since my phone doesnt have a flash, it was pointless to take a photo at night.

Ovie is usually chilled and relaxed but I read on a few sites that Ovie came into Vancouver with a attitude and wasn't his usually self. Word is that the Russians wanted him to act more "Russian".
I honestly dont know why the USA are so sad. I know that they were trying to pull some cinderlla story on us, but thats like what 1 in 1000000000000 chances of happening on our soil.
Anyways, werent people assuming that the USA would finish 5th, 6th? they should be proud. Not only getting silver, but remained undefeated until today

americans in general seem really choked about the olympics
reading comments on forums etc they were bitching about how we got more golds.. and came to the conclusion that golds dont matter its just medal count (yet in the past they would always rank by golds)
and then they would go on about how Hockey doesn't matter and americans didnt even watch the game.. they're all about "Baseball!!!!!!!!!!!"

I really think its the pressure for ovie more than anything. You know they want OUR gold very bad. I think if Ovie was just being himself, yet still shy away from the cameras, he coulda had a better tournament.
Its like saying Crosby played like crap, when in reality, when the other lines start rolling, theres not as much pressure for him to make the big play or score the big goal. Even still, he was a threat every time he got into the offensive zone with the puck.
Remember, Crosby finished the tournament with 7points
with depth like this, your young gun doesnt need to lead in scoring, you just need to be the difference maker when it really counts, and thats exactly what he did.
Heres another question i want to ask you guys, now that its all said and done, was USA really the underdogs they were said to be?
Brian Burke spun the media like wildfire with all the "us against the world crap" like Gretzky did in 2002. The US media picked it up and the said remarks of the underdogs were written by journalists. A good example would be the American medium would keep on writing about how Ryan Miller was the best kept secret in the NHL in terms of goaltending. Which to anyone up north that follows hockey knows what he has accomplished up till the beginning of the tournament.
My initial thoughts of the US team were no different than what it is now after tonight. They represented a lot of the youth in this hockey tournament. They were going to be relentless when possible forechecking due to the players selected. Players like Bobby Ryan, Zach Parise and Patrick Kane would be enough to chip goals, and as I have said, I wouldnt doubt the fact that Ryan Miller or even Jaroslav Hakak or Jonas Hiller could in fact stir upsets as we saw the past two weeks.
In terms of what this tournament meant for me compared to olympics? Well, this tournament was the showcasing of the next generation of superstars in the world. Canada and USA really did represent this well and we were treated to a HUGE hockey game.
I really hope for some sort of World Cup ala 2004 to happen before Sochi. I understand that the World Cup of Hockey was more of an NHL showcase, but it brings the Hockey powers together as one and everyone gets treated to very good hockey games
Everything aside, the hockey tournament here capped off an amazing 17days of sport. As I have said before, sport brings people and nations together, no matter how much turmoil is going on outside of the world. It is sport where the world really find peace.

Win every game in a huge tournament with the world watching every move you make, then lose the final game in a nail-biter. Who wouldn't be disappointed?
And going into the gold medal game the odds were close to 1-1.....FYI.
It was a close game. We won - period.

We all know a lot of Americans get caught up in their totally biased, BS media.
They can deny that Mens Hockey Gold isn't important to them but everyone knows how huge it is.

Well... they were only one goal away from getting Gold... They should be proud, but like I said earlier, silver (in team sports) suck,
cause it feels like a consolation prize. Especially when you were so close to getting Gold instead. I would be bitter too.

I truly believe most, if not all of them (players), took the loss as expected and the US media will downplay the importance of the game and emphasize that Canada was supposed to win all along.
Admittedly, we were favoured to win before the tournament but after our initial loss to the US, performance against Slovakia and the momentum the US had going into the last game, all bets were off.
This was a VERY important game for ALL involved. Both teams had a good chance to win. It was a great battle. Canada took it. ACCEPT IT. What's so hard to understand about that?

If we are not able to ask skeptical questions, to interrogate those who tell us that something is true; to be skeptical of those in authority, then we're up for grabs..

I had a friend who lives in the states tell me that the 4 on 4 OT period was "unfair" because Canada has more skilled players. Um, isn't that the point of the whole thing? To showcase talent and provide an exciting game? I suppose he thinks maybe Team Canada should have not played their best? I think he's completely retarded personally, anyone care to comment?

guys, im in the USA right now and have the priviledge of watching the hockey game on NBC... talk about bad play by play..
all the pucks were not dumped in the zone, poked out of the zone, but instead were punched, jabbed, spiked..... fuck i thought i was listening to boxing or volleyball. surprisingly, their coverage was all about USA as usual, but around 20% some about joannie rochette, alex biledou and team canada, and they actually said Canada definitely owned the top of the podium. didnt see them being so humble and acknowledging it.
definitely nice walking down the street rocking canada gear and seeing others doing the same!!

The best part after the win was walking down Robson. There was a crowd of maybe 100-200 ppl in front of the Oakley store singing "We are the Champions" so loudly and in sync. It was oh so sweet to hear that. I accidently deleted my video clip so if anyone has any footage of that, pls pm me.
He dissed Canada before last weeks game vs. Canada.
Sports trash-talk. Big f'n deal. Pretty sure he's talked shit about the Sabres when the Canucks played them, too, but that didn't stop Ryan Miller from wanting to play with him. Hell, everyone else on Team USA is from teams the Canucks have played against, players who've had Kes shit-talk them and their teams through many games... think any of them had a problem with him being on Team USA?
