I have a friend who's mom is a bag lady. She's past being embarrassed by it. The mom chose to be a bag lady and likes the lifestyle. I choose to be a millionaire, but for some fucking reason, it ain't happening. I must be fucking lazy or something. Oh, I know........... maybe I should try being dishonest. hee hee hee....... |
Amazing Doc, thanks for that. I used to always say, well they have shelters, why don't they sleep in them. Since I've never seen inside a shelter before, now I see why. Jesus, and he was down there when it was dry, imagine those shelters during the months of rain we have here, christ a place full of viruses and bacteria. Imagine having no where clean to go when you're suffering from the Flu, diarhea... |
Excellent documentary. I haven't really decided if I think the guy is dedicated or naive as far as doing heroin. |
Ok... What's the solution now? |
I don't think this was a documentary to find a solution for this but rather to show you what is happening/open your eyes type of thing. |
good documentary $75k/yr:eek: |
Doc was great for the actual realization to why the Olympic protesters are pushing for social housing. Too bad they have to be violent pricks and try to act as "knights in shining armor" for the homeless. If people saw this documentary en masse, I get the feeling that opinions on the homeless issue in Vancouver would change significantly. However, with the shit protesters are pulling now, they're just halting any possible progress that could potentially happen. |

You can't lower spending until you've already spent other money elsewhere. So you'll still be spending that $75k/yr per person while also spending hundreds of millions on social housing, and it won't pay off for ages. This is one of many reasons why there's no solution yet. |
All fun and games until he used the hard drugs, surprised he didn't complete the unholy trinity with meth. |

I had to pause for a bit then continued on with the video |
wow, puts things into perspective... 75k / year... O_o |
Guy goes homeless for 1 month in DTES Vancouver [documentary] This is a fantastic documentary, fully available on Youtube. Here's the first video, for the rest you should view from their website. Our very own good friend Marco 911 makes an appearance starting at 1:35 of Part 2  Pretty great movie though, he ends up doing crack and heroin at the end. You won't believe the heroin scene... |
|
Odd that it didn't come up in a search. |
A system they can exploit and we're surprised that they're doing it? Geez. The government needs to tighten up. Lots of homeless come to Vancouver because the weather is way more mild. They need to tag the homeless with a barcode and enforce provincial borders that way Vancouver doesn't get a shitload from back east or something. |
Uh where do you think most of our homeless comes from? Out east... |
^^ we should ship the homless to a boot camp and make the work! No work no drugs! |
Wow. Thought provoking. Thanks for sharing. |

good documentary though, the hardcore drug scenes were really unexpected. Either this guy really cares or he's trying to make it big quick by doing what no other documentary maker has done before |
great watch |
Wow -- eye opening for sure. Lots of misconceptions dispelled. I was shocked to see how easy it is to get on welfare. I'm depressed too. can i have a check please? |
That was some powerful stuff. I never felt bad for a homeless person because they can still get welfare, what they choose to do with their money is up to them but obviously they're not using it to get better. I was very surprised how easy it was to get welfare as well. I know this doesnt mean that all the DTES residents are hopeless but for every person who is trying to get out of the life if any, there's 9 others that don't give a shit and will continue to abuse the system because they can. |
