Go kart freak accident

"A witness said the kart stopped suddenly at one side of the track and the blue scarf was attached to it," said a police spokesman. "An initial investigation showed the cause of death was neck strangulation."
Apparently her scarf got caught in the motor and she was strangled to death. Doesn't it take several minutes to strangle someone to death? I figured some safety personnel would have gotten her out by then...

my friend who gradded from the same international school just told me about this yesterday......

RIP... what a sad way to die. so young

boatcaptain 02-18-2010 08:47 AM

SkinnyPupp 02-18-2010 08:48 AM

^^ We all know the answer to that, unfortunately

hal0g0dv2 02-18-2010 10:12 AM

w0w thats brutal

J____ 02-18-2010 12:40 PM

that's partial fault on the attendants. Who in their right minds would let someone on with a scarf, it's stupid. Even long hair had to be tied let alone a scarf...

nah, the strangling force is not from her own body weight (hanging) plus she might be struggling so that means her brain is using more oxygen for those action, meaning she suffocates faster, goes unconscious probably after 10 - 15 second, and maybe 10 more second then she dies?

and the staff there are useless, how the hell can they let her on with a scarf dangling off her neck~...this is just stupid...RIP the little girl

AzNightmare 02-18-2010 01:32 PM

Wow... lousy staff.

Where is the go-kart track in HK? I thought go karting was only in Macau.

GabAlmighty 02-18-2010 08:44 PM

Can "drown" in 6sec? (I think is the fastest). This is basically the same thing.

tragic

truong 02-18-2010 11:31 PM

I've seen this happen a lot, but much less fatal.

As the kart continues to to travel forward the scarf will get tighter and tighter. Even after she lifts off the gas the momentum of the kart will start increasing in tightness until she finally stops.

Its very hard to catch these things depending on situation, They usually have their scarfs tucked into their jackets etc making it look harmless to the staff. But as vibrations and bumps occur it will rattle loose.

Anyways, I will be showing this to my staff. We already have signs placed up everywhere and I hope we will never have to deal with a problem even close to this.

ch0pstix 02-19-2010 01:59 AM

wow..that sucks...we all know not to wear a scarf while go-karting now

.Dream.Time 02-19-2010 02:14 AM

or can i send my wife gokarting with her nice new scarf

thumper 02-19-2010 06:39 AM

that's just horrible... i remember something similar, but it involved a passenger on the back of a motorcycle and her scarf got tangled in the rear wheel spokes :(

The staff should have told her that, I remember girls with long hair had to tie them up as well for safety.
