BB BOLD: Using WiFi without Data Plan

I just cancelled my data plan, and my wifi doesn't work at home.. this is my error message
"unable to connect to the internet. please try again later. "

I went to mobile network > data services > off, so it won't charge me for data accidently. Is this the problem?

i am using a bb bold 9000. it says that wi-fi is connected... ROGERS - *network name*

how do I use wi-fi

browser > option > browser config > browser (change to hotspot browser) then save.

This.

Changing it to hotspot causes it to use the wifi instead of the data.

actually data service OFF means no internet what so ever, that includes wifi.
i figured it out when i got my 9700 and didnt have a data plan, it wouldnt connect to wifi.
u have to have it ON to even use wifi.

just call into ur carrier and tell them to put an internet block on ur account to be sure u wont be charged for data.

I read this thread and now I'm a little paranoid....I'm in a little different of a situation as I have 50mb of data, but with such a small amount I obviously want to make sure I'm using WIFI before my data when I'm at home. Should I be making the same change in browser config?

isnt there a setting in the BB to have it to default to wifi hotspot first and then go to data when no wifi is detected? should be in your connection settings to list order of priority when connecting to the internet

I think also if u have data plan but turn off ur mobile network and have wifi alone it still works

ok I called rogers to put the internet block on my phone.

mobile network ON > default browser config INTERNET browser
mobile network ON > default browser config HOTSPOT browser
=
i get "a communication failure has occurred. the server may be busy, please try again later....." etc.

when I had data still, i was able to access the internet via my wi-fi. it says ROGERS - *my network name* so it should be connected.. right?

@JDMCivic when I turn off my mobile network, the white wi-fi symbol turns gray so that doesn't work.

I think you should keep
mobile network ON
Data services ON

and config your browser to HOTSPOT. I believe you wont be charged for data since you're on Wi-Fi.

yeah my data services are on, browser is hotspot. i don't know about mobile network.. because it says rogers, not on. also, i'm not worried about being charged b/c the internet block from rogers is on.

Hmmm cuz right now just as a test I turned off my mobile network (so the top right corner is OFF) and I'm on wifi alone and still works...bbm groups work as well. I guess that's cuz I have data plan so even though phone is off the sim card is still telling the phone I have wifi?

I opened google before I cancelled my data so it still had the page in cache(probably wrong terminology).
Then I searched something up and it worked. now this means I just have to google every site I want to visit. When I try facebook for eg. Via the address bar I get an error msg..

Wi-fi is connected wtfux!!
