Canon T2i

Saw this comparison between the new T2i and the 7D... and I must say the HD video is pretty much the same quality as the 7D. Sure the camera may not have all the features as 7D, but for less than half price, if you're mostly looking to do HD video, the T2i is the way to go. I may pick one up myself just for HD video purposes and as a backup camera. Even the LCD on the T2i is higher res than 7D

I'm really eye-ing the 550D, but then this review writes:
"because of this same resolution the images are – at least to my eyes, as I said – indistinguishable to video images from a 7D. BUT Canon pointed out that it is NOT the same sensor!"

i thought they were....

I think they are the same, but the 7D has two of them.

I think you are confusing sensor with processor- the 7D has 2 Digic IV processors, where the t2i has one.

dragonone was talking about the 18mp sensors they both share. Canon says even though they're the same mp, they are "not the same".

Oh yeah... nevermind... I shouldn't drink and try to talk about processors. You are absolutely correct

Shouldn't you pick up a HD vid cam for HD video, and not an SLR?

Think about how many different lenses you can use with a DSLR vs. HD cam corder.

I've also been contemplating moving from my 40D to the new T2i.

^^ If you're not gonna shoot lots of video, I wouldn't. 40D is still much faster (6.5fps) and you'd have to buy new memory cards as the T2i uses SD cards. I don't know if I could go back from a bigger body to a much smaller Rebel one.

I don't have many memory cards. Was thinking more on image quality and digic4 since it has a comparable sensor to a 7D. The 40D body is definitely great.

'comparable' .... yes. I'm gonna wait until some reviews come out for comparisons. I have a 500D right now, if the sensor is comparable to a 7D then I'll upgrade. If it doesn't I'll just save up more for a 7D or watever comes. The price is attractive though.

Yes it is. $800 for the body. I can sell my 40D and kit lens and not pay much. But yes I'll wait for reviews too.

Hm.... don't think it's THAT MUCH of an upgrade to my T1i... I rarely shoot in 1080P mode anyways; that being said though, the ability to choose ISO and F stops for video is plenty useful.

if the sensor is close (or even same as the 7D =) ) then it's definitely worth the upgrade from a 500D. imo.

i got my t1i at just under 9 bills tax in body only, so it's different than when you got urs on sale. if anything it should be more worth it for you than me haha.

Are you buying it purely for video footage?
