I don't know why people are hating on good looking people with talent, shows that there are still a strong prejudice jealously going on here. I'm mature enough to accept it, and of course girl band are all good because were all guys.

Onassis 02-26-2010 03:35 PM

lol I thought that this thread would be about Starcraft 2 being delayed.

Not gonna jump on the hater band wagon, it was mildly amusing watching something come back from the past and ruining someone's life.

This thread was made to show how people will say anything on the internet when they don't like it. They're behind a computer screen, who cares?

I mainly posted it because it shows just how harsh and quickly the media/internet will jump to conclusions and totally ruin a guy's day/life. Not realizing how people feel when they read those comments.

For Korea, it was Jay Park and other celebrities
For Revscene, it was $14 baller, Jeffield, Boostaholic, Bradford Chow, hyde, + people I don't remember.

For Revscene, we just roll with the punches and make funny comments about people being ugly, gay, fat, a loser and anything that geeky Revsceners can think of on the spot. In this particular scandal, people made petitions telling him to go kill himself and to leave just because he made stupid comments as a kid. The extremities are different in each case. On Revscene we jump on and bash a guy until he fights back, loses, and we keep knocking the guy down until we get bored and move on to the next thing. It's just the internet right? who cares about the other guy behind the screen. Jay park didn't have it this lucky, and his Celebrity status that took him 4 years to achieve were smashed down with one single comment taken out of context and angered people Nation wide.
Think of it this way. We see a dumb post on the buysell, we fail him, and comment about the post in Fightclub. Everybody scrolls down to the fail button and clicks it before they even bother to read the post. We have the privilege on Revscene to lay low and come back with a different tone, and people bother to care about what the person did anymore. We fortunately never take it farther than that. Some of us anyway. Jay park never got such a chance since he was a celebrity and was brought down by haters in a mere 4 days.

This is why I even bothered to find the articles, read it, and simplify it for you. It showcases the mob mentality that people have the second they see something they don't like. It only takes one ignorant person to make the first comment before everybody else jumps in. I've proved my point in this thread by the posts that some of you made. Gay comments, the "fails" I received; theres general ignorance in most of you. If you guys bothered to even read it, you would see what I mean.

It's not a thread about 2PM and Jay Park. I mainly used him as an example for this. Am I a fan? I guess. I applaud them for not being another borderline gay boyband in Asia. They even have fans worldwide who are starting to see Asian guys as normal guys. Unlike the skinny honger kids who post on Revscene.Go on Youtube and type in anything related to 2PM and Jay Park. Tons of people are starting to see Asian Males in a different light. Wongfu Productions, etc. We're even seen as real Actors and Musicians instead of the Kung Fu action heros with broken english like Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee.

Revscene users use to be a close knit group of people who loved cars and actually made some useful posts. The last I saw that was 2 years ago when Dagonay and hypa were still active, and SG wasn't the only known Admin. So Revscene: Stop using the fail button, and post useful comments. This is not your local 4chan.
VLS Still has useful people who post normal comments.
VOT has turned into what use to be FC. We had a FC to keep the shit threads in there for a reason.

Sorry, but you need to look at your own post before trying to back track on your words. You said:

I like a few of thier songs, the guy lives just past the border, and it's an interesting read.
Not only that. They're also redefining the way people see Asian Males. It's still a boyband, but they have fans all over the world. Including white girls.

First you said you posted it cuz you like them, the guy lives close (so?), and that it's interesting (maybe for people that follow kpop). Then you said they're redefining the way people see Asian males. Sorry, I've never heard of these guys before today, and will probably never hear about them again. I guess it could be interesting for people that follow kpop, but for those that don't - well, you've already seen the replies.

You said you want to prove a point that the media/mob mentality can ruin lives. Well - it's only the case if you truly cared about this kpop group, otherwise you wouldn't have posted it. Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there that don't give a crap about stuff like this so you pretty much set yourself up for the negative comments in this thread.

You do/say stupid things on the web - you pay for it, celebrity or not. It's the internet, you have no control over how people will react to it. I got pretty upset at one point when people started failing me for my comments as if I can't have an opinion on things, but I later reazlied that - WHO THE HELL CARES? It's the internet and I don't care about whether people agree with me or not - I shouldn't, as they make no difference in my life anyway.

Wtf. Now you're talking about caring for how random people on the web FEEL? Sorry - I don't care. Just like i real life, you need to be responsible for everything you say/do cuz there's always a chance that it'll come back and bite you in the ass.

Those were his words, taken out of context, perhaps? But he said them, so once again he has to be responsible for them. Lives are ruined all the time by quick/witty, unprocessed, spur of the moment words - that's human nature.

At first I thought your thread was about Korea's disqualification from that gold medal that they won in speed skating but turned out to be some news about some kpop boyband. Well, i read on, out of curiosity, and thought that it was pretty stupid that people would care so much about celebrities in general (what they do, say, wear, think, etc). Then I saw your big response to all the comments you got in your thread, and thought, wow, this guy sure's trying to back track and change his story on why he posted this. and here we are. So yes. I read your post, clicked on all your links, and what I got out of it is this:

You're a big fan of this group and you care a lot about them, this is huge news to you so you wanted to share it with those that might care. This was never meant to be some science experiment on "mob mentality" as you put it - you're just trying to save face right now by saying that. But hey, this is just my opinion so you really shouldn't care to much about it. I know I wouldn't.

After all. I'm just some random stranger on the web that doesn't agree with you. So what? life moves on.

Sorry dude, but your thread IS about 2PM and Jay Park. Can't spin that. I mean, your reasons in the above paragraph to "prove" to us that this group is somehow influential on Asian male's portrayal in the media, is the perfect example of why this thread is TOTALLY about them/him.

Revscene is full of kids. What did you expect? I never liked the "fail" button that they put in awhile back but hey, this ain't my board so I can't control it.

Why did I spend the time to respond? Hey it's Friday night, just finished watching the big hockey game and this "news" kinda got a few chuckles out of me. Sorry, nothing personal. Just kinda funny that's all. ;)

Point proven. You're also one of the few that actually posted a useful comment. This is what I was looking for.

If I even bothered, I would've found more sources for this whole topic. It just so happens that this happened on the day that Kim Yuna won the gold medal, so it seemed like the best time to post this. This topic was also taken to a new level where it actually ruined a guy in a few days. There are a lot more stories about how the internet takes things way too far; this one seemed the most time and situation appropriate. It also made a great title.

In the end, yes it's just the internet. We can say whatever the hell we want and get away with it since there are no real names or faces behind the user. What I was trying to bring up was the fact that sometimes the internet will take things too far. You've seen this on Revscene and other forums. We'll find a guy to pick on, and we'll all jump on the guy. People have feelings. Most people stay quiet when they receive criticism, but some take it personally. Think of how many kids offed themselves because of some comments made on the internet. It's just like the guys who were bullied in school and end up killing themselves, or show up at school with a gun. The internet takes it to a whole new level since it instantly becomes a wider range of people who just don't care about what they say on the internet. Would you say the same things you type, to the person in real life?

I never said I wasn't a fan. I never even disqualified the fact that I was. Like I said, it just so happened that this group that I was a fan of had this happen to them. You can say whatever you want. This whole thing was actually only brought up to rile up a few geekfags to post something ignorant. People DO deviate from the whole topic itself and make a dumbass post just to say something funny in hopes that they will gain street cred.

If I wanted Revscene Approval, the whole thread would've just had one link, and a single line that said : "lol Korean Boyband fag leaves and Korea turns into a real life Korean Drama"

To the rest:

you should've posted this on a forum where koreans are the dominant demography. You won't get a response you like here. Whoever this guy is, he is just a no name punk born in seattle to most of us here.

Oh by the way, it is the fans who made him a star. If he said those immature comments that offended his fans, he should accept the consequences. I don't think this has anything to do with media overblown the subject.

Bottomline, Revscener do not give a crap about boy band. So move on and check out some olympic hotties instead------> my recommandation=Elene Gedevanishvili
