Old Mobo with usb 2.0 support problem

I have an aopen ax4ge max it says on the specs it supports usb 2.0 I tried plugging a usb external drive into every single usb port I can find, yet they all say please connect to a usb 2.0 drive for faster performance, please click here to see your avialable ports. That doesn't help me much..... Any ideas?

update drivers?

John 02-26-2010 11:22 PM

Check that USB 2.0 is enabled in the BIOS.

All the driver updates from aopen stay stuck for like 5 minutes at 0% and kills my internet connection.
Bios usb2 is enabled.

Went out bought a pci to usb2 card and still having same problem! WTF!

When you have any computer problem, it's best if you give all the system information possible. You haven't stated your OS yet.

What OS are you running and at what SP?

If you are running XP pre-SP1, that is likely your problem.

Sorry John, I'm on xp sp3

have you confirmed updated motherboard drivers ?
i went on to aopen and i can download fine. i see a driver that list USB 2.0 support. do you have that one?

which bios version do you have? do you have a HT cpu? looks like there are a few bios updates for ram and ht support as well.

The usb 2.0 driver is for ME or 98 it doesn't allow install on xp, not sure what u mean by Hyper Threading.... updated to the latest bios yet still havin the same message pop up. Please plug your device into a usb2.0 port for faster performance... when I know damn well i have a usb 2.0 port that it's plugged into.

AOpen - 42302e31
Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG

Is my current bios version.
Mother board driver I'm not sure which to update as stated the usb 2.0 is not for xp and the others seem to be for sound and other things that i'm not having problems with.

try installing the chipset driver. "Intel Chipset Driver" is found on the usa aopen site. the latest version is "R9.1.1.1020_PV"
http://usa.aopen.com/userdownload_Li...989&Model=2880

try updating the bios. we don't know if you have the latest version. the aopen taiwan site has an update, but did not have anything like what you mentioned "42302e31" or "AwardBIOS v6.00PG". you can get this bios update from the aopen taiwan site (not usa). the latest version is "R1.12".

this utility flashes the bios in windows. afuwin.exe

if the above does not work, try booting into ubuntu via a boot cd. plug in a known usb 2.0 device, such as an external hard drive. test the speed of writing a huge file, preferably over 700mb. dont test via a thumb drive because of their limited write speed.
