raspy/harsh vibration sound at 3500 rpm hey, wonderin if anyone has any idea what this could be, i was thinking the clutch or one of the bearings. when i reach 3500 rpm in any gear in my 1997 integra, a harsh vibrating sound kicks in, but it seems less noticable after about 4000rpm. transmission shifts fine and everything but this sound is just quite annoying and for all i it could be damaging something. thanks for help!! |
which integra? gsr? type-r? mods? all could be different, but i'm sure someone will say "VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO!" |

If you step on the clutch does the sound go away? If you put it in neutral does the sound go away? If you step on the gas does the sound go away? If you shift the weight left to right does one side get louder? Does it change with engine speed or vehicle speed? A little bit hard to internet diagnose so if you could be more detailed in when it happens, it's a bit easier to figure out the problem. Could be anything from input shaft bearing, throw out bearing, pilot bearing (if there is one), or as simple as wheel bearing. Those questions should help figure out what it could be. |

2. yes when car is in neutral the sound isnt there. 3. the sound kicks in once i hit 3500 rpm during acceleration 4.no it does not 5. it changes with engine speed. also, I can feel the shifter knob vibrating alot while the sound is on. thanks for help!! |
sounds like an input shaft bearing in the transmission |
Bump for input shaft bearing. |
I have the same problem, is this an expensive fix? |
VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO! |
Heatshield? |
its not the heat shield i have same problem on my 97 gsr =| |
It will do it in neutral at a standstill though right?? If you just hold the rpm at your 3500 - 3600 mark it will do it. I have the same thing. It doesnt make so much a noise, but I can feel the vibration and feel it through the shifter. I think it is just a transient rpm that is not the engines favorite place to be. |
its not you cat heat shield but try looking at your shield for your headers i took mine off and no more sound =] |
