head gasket leaking... Hey so my car has always had a little bit of oil leaking out of where the head and block connect. but recently after adding a IM a TB and a fuel rail on my car, i have noticed this leaking has gotten quite a bit worse. i just took my car for a 10 min drive and oil is seeping out and the block has a nice area covered in oil. is it possible that due to these mods the pressure in the engine has increased and is causing more oil to seep out? and on a scale of 1-10 how concerned should i be about this. also if anyone knows good shops for decent prices that can fix this would be appreciated. If you need pictures i can get some if it helps thanks http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._3288094_n.jpg http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._4615239_n.jpg http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._5345972_n.jpg |
You should be concerned, you can get by checking your oil level, but that's not a long term solution. You can either DIY or take it to any shop.. it just take some shop time. Search for head gasket.. it has been answered a few times before. |
These mods are not the culprits of your failing head gasket. This is just pure coincidence. Unless you bumped up compression or boosted your car, your gasket is failing purely due to age. Compact cars weren't designed to last 20 years. PS. Hard driving would also speed up head gasket failure. What's the mileage of your black beauty anyways? |
are you sure its the head gasket and not the valve cover gasket? |
i valve cover was leaking before but isnt anymore after i got it done by my teacher at bcit in the second pic there is oil in the upper region im not really sure where its coming from though |
thats the end/cam plug leaking. At the end of the ex cam, just above the water temp sensor or just behind the vtec solenoid. You have to take off the valve cover, then the end cap. That plug is around $5-10. Common on the twin cam engines. Which instructor at bcit was it? |
Spray that side of the engine down with brake cleaner to get the oil off, then go for a drive and check where the oil is coming from. My guess is end plug or vc gasket, maybe even one of the sensors on the side of the head. What's a can or two of brake cleaner if you find the "right" problem? Worth a shot. |

the valve cover is not leaking for sure, i checked around the perimeter theres not a drop but that other part where the block and head meet is head gasket for sure no? thanks for the help so far everyone:) |
Brake cleaner will evaporate almost instantly. Spray 1cm below the valve cover, the head and the block. |
