G 03-15-2010 09:15 PM

Hmm... how much would people pay?

tallshorty 03-15-2010 10:21 PM

just pre-ordered one off camerastore. $36 after tax and shipping. Anyone know if this can be bought locally yet?

Looking at the photos, the 24-105 mug looks like a much better made replica of the lens than the current 70-200 L. Just look at the distance window, it looks lopsided and so fake. I know the inside is metal (which is great), but hopefully the outside is not some cheap plastic. Wouldn't it be great if it was magnesium alloy and that you can actually turn the zoom and focus ring and move the distance meter (i can only dream)?

G 03-15-2010 10:32 PM

Yes, you can get it locally...... for $24.98..

LOL, you hoarded a bunch of mugs that are going to be a production item? You're going to get retail at the most.

skyxx 03-15-2010 11:08 PM

To be honest, I hate people who hoard a certain item only to resell it. Don't be greedy, just buy it because you actually want one.

G 03-15-2010 11:22 PM

Rofl, I didn't ACTUALLY hoard it... it's actually pretty expensive once you buy higher numbers. I ordered 6, 4 are for family and friends, and I have 2 left over to see if any of my other friends want it. And the mug being a production item isn't confirmed yet. No need to hate :(. But I do want the cup... I wish they made that too.

Dangerphoto 03-15-2010 11:25 PM

*Gasp* hope they still have some!!

Sooo... the above quote was written just to stroke your own ego?
Canon Canada is having thousands of the mugs made. That qualifies as a production item. There will be more than enough to go around. The Olympics were just a testing ground.

G 03-15-2010 11:37 PM

I went with a couple of other people who bought a bunch just for resell. (So it's kind of like I have an inventory)

I still don't know if its production item or not.. even if it is, it's still only exclusive to Canada? I know some people in the states are trying to buy it off Craigslist (Vancouver) and that guy on Ebay has sold around 40 or 50 pre-order mugs for 70$!! Super rape.

Senna4ever 03-15-2010 11:51 PM

I find people like that morally reprehensible.

moky 03-16-2010 09:34 AM

i recall seeing it on craigslist yesterday or the day before, some guy selling it for 90 bucks! it must have been flagged already

Senna4ever 03-16-2010 03:43 PM

Here's a much more rare Canon item, a very detailed model of a 1DsmkIII + 600mm f4:

that model is so cool!

what's the deal with the availability of these mugs? they don't seem to be very limited...?

i wanted to also preorder one from kerrisdale cameras. I called this morning at 9:30 when they opened and they had 25 spots left for preorder. I didn't have my CC at the time and when I called back at 12, they were sold out on the preorders! They said they even had people call them from as far as Germany (thanks to the internet/facebook). They had ordered just under 300 units. They started the preorder list 3 days ago. I guess once the info hit the net, they went out of stock fast. Oh well, hope I get my mug from thecamerastore. (i don't even drink coffee...it's going to be my water bottle)

Yes, it makes a great lunch tray and the keyboard is a great sandwich crumb filter. :p

Dangerphoto 03-17-2010 11:16 AM

NOOOOOOoooooooooooooo, I can't find anywhere that has it anymore~

G 03-17-2010 01:22 PM

Weird, I asked Canon about the mugs, and they don't seem to know that its being released as pre-orders :S They just said you get it if you spend 200$ or more on their website. Interesting...

skyxx 03-17-2010 02:26 PM

Different departments have different memos. Another thought is maybe they want to make some money from their online store as well? Hence why they don't mention other shops/stores.

LUUUUUUUU 03-17-2010 02:33 PM

how much and where????????????

tallshorty 03-17-2010 08:05 PM

Damn it. My preorder through thecamerastore got canceled because they accepted too many orders :(

But luckily, I also preordered through Lens and Shutter. I called to confirm my preorder and they ensured I'll be getting one. Works out better anyways. They are selling it also for $24.95 and only a 8 min drive from me. Keeping my fingers crossed that I actually get one

Note: Lens and Shutters preorder list is full. But I was told that they ordered in excess of their preorder list to sell to walk-in customers. The mugs are not expected until mid April.

G 03-17-2010 08:27 PM

Kerrisdale Cameras said theirs are expected to go in April 15th. (Approximation from Canon). They were only allowed around 220 per store, when I reserved it was around 20-30 left, but it was sold out later on during the day.

The people working there were also bummed out because Kerrisdale employees are only allowed 1 per staff!
