anyone an ncix premier partner?

was going to drop a grand on a set of speakers - Kef KHT3005SE and am wondering if I'd save more than $150 off of the sale price w/ the PP membership?

Can someone check and PM me?

Thanks!

$1000 for 100W 5.1?...

AV123.com sells high quality drivers in 5.0 and 7.0 systems for like 899 a set with tower center/fronts and bookshelve rears

i even bought my SVS 5.0 system for like 1300 and i guarantee you it blows this set out of the water 10 fold, my center speaker alone handles 6 times this wattage.

Your center channel is ratted at 600 watts RMS? The Kefs are 100 watts RMS per speaker way more power than than most receivers will put out. Most are around 20 to 30 watts a channel all channels driven. Also Power handling specs on speakers don't mean much if you know what you are doing.

the kef speakers have gotten really good reviews at places like zdnet and cnet, which i usually take with a grain of salt.

however, even on avsforum they are said to be really good, and i'll take those opinions anyday.

Handling = Loud

loud doesnt equal quality but in a larger home theatre, pushing drivers beyond their capability effects quality severely

and yea, pretty sure the dual drivers in my center channel are rated at 300 a peice + mid tweet, Yamaha V667 receiver @ 950W X 7 channel

I should mention that they were originally $2200, on sale @ $999....so that makes av123 look even more enticing I guess

Specs of your center channel you have:

• Woofer w/Tweeter
• Removable Grill
• Audiophile-Grade Crossovers
Power Handling: 20W-120W
• Frequency: 68Hz-20kHz
• Impedance: 8 Ohms
• Sensitivity: 87dB
• Dimensions: 7” x 20” x 8.5”
• 3 Year Limited Warranty

Here are the specs of a regular Yamaha receiver.

http://forums.audioholics.com/forums...=11104&page=14

RX-V657
Output at clipping (1 kHz into 8/4 ohms)
1 channel driven: 181/278 W (22.6/24.4 dBW)
5 channels driven (8 ohms): 67 W (18.3 dBW)

STEREO PERFORMANCE, DIGITAL INPUT
All signals were PCM and 16-bit except where noted otherwise. Reference level is –20 dBFS; all level trims at 0. Volume setting for reference level was –3.5.
Output at clipping (1 kHz, 8/4 ohms)
both channels driven: 129/188 W (21.1/22.7 dBW)

Even this lower model managed 67W X 5 1kHz at clipping, and that is 1W higher than the HKAVR330:

Output at clipping (1 kHz into 8/4 ohms)
1 channel driven: 95/148 W (19.8/21.7 dBW)
5 channels driven (8 ohms): 67 W (18.2 dBW)

PCM Stereo performance (1kHz, 8/4 ohms, both channels driven)................................86/25W in multi-channel, shutdown after half a second.

I like to compare those test results using HK's as a reference because HK seems to produce numbers close to or exceed what they specify.

Did they test the 4600 with the impedance switch set to 4 ohms? If they did, according to the S&V reviewer the current capability will be limited to half.

It is hard to believe a 40 lb weight Yamaha could not do better than 40WX5.

KEF makes great stuff. I have some KEF iQ series stuff.

EXV603 03-10-2010 10:45 PM

I have to agree with hondaracer. Even though kef makes very good stuff, you can still purchase a nice home theater speaker system for around $1000.

The svs system he is talking about is very good for the price. I was going to purchase an svs system but ended up buying polk audio speakers.

I purchased the following for around a grand.

Polk audio Monitor 70 mains. $400
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290015
Polk audio Monitor 30 rears. $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290094
Polk audio CS2 center. $130
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290024
Elemental Design A2-300 subwoofer. $350
http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=407

Some of the prices flucuate on the sites.
