Border Question: New BC Drivers License
 

I'm headed to Seattle tomorrow and don't have a passport bc it's expired but I've got one of the new licenses but when i went on icbc it said something about activating the new license or something....... So I'm just a bit confused can I not just bring my new license with me to the boarder or should I bring my old passport with a whole bunch of ID's just incase.

You have to activate it online, you should have gotten some paperwork the day you went to get the card that has an activation number on it.

And you might have to cancel that trip, it takes about 72 hours for the card to be officially active.

Man now I'm stressing out lol shit we'll see then

Also I don't remember seeing a piece of paper stating that I had to activate my license I know saying that won't fly at the boarder bur I'm really hoping I can get through

Just a shot in the dark here but when you say you got a new license you do mean you got the new more expensive one that allows you to travel to the US by land and not just the new style license right?

yea it takes more than just the new one to get you thru

you and can try with a expired passport, I went down a couple months ago with a buddy who had an expired one and they let us thru

The one I'm talking about is the license u get if u were to recieve a license now which I thought was all u need guess I'm completly wrong shit! Well I guess I'm just going to pray that I get through with a old ass passport and all the IDs I got :(

getting a new drivers license doesn't mean you have the one you need to cross the border.

it's the enhanced drivers license... costs over $100 i believe.

When you go for a new enhanced driver's license that has the passport type info on it, its not like renewing your license, you need to bring documents and have an interview and all that as well and it takes long enough that you need to book an appointment so if you didn't do any of that then you just got one of those new looking normal DLs ... hope you get thru the border with an expired passport, they might just hassle you a bit but I don't think they would deny entry unless you're name happens to be on a watch list ...

The EDL is $52. I got one since I don't have a passport (I don't travel often).

I got in fine the only thing he asked was how come I haven't gotten a new one yet also he told me that in June u won't be able to use a expired passport anymore u have either have a new one or get the advanced license that u guys were explaining to me
