why dont you go out and give it a drive right now, add another 30-45 minutes for morning congestion. that would be your approximated travel time in the morning.....
Hwy 91 towards richmond from queensborogh can be quite congested in the morning, i've seen it.

It's unfortunate that there isn't a highway that connects highway 91 to highway 1 IMO. There is no clean route to go from Richmond to Coquitlam. Your options are:
1. Take Westminister to Knight, Marine Way exit and then Marine Way will turn into Stewardson/Columbia etc. Although there is no highway, this is my preferred route. Marine Way has 3 lanes most of the way and traffic only really gets screwed up at the Byrne Rd. light. If Marine Way gets screwed up you have a lot of turn-offs that you can take to get by a jam.
2. Take Highway 91 out of richmond, then the Queensborough and onto Stewardson. I don't care for this route in spite of the highway travel. Queensborough is always fucked. Also, if there is a problem on Highway 91 there is no exit until Westminister Highway. A lot of problems happen at that S-Curve as well as on the Alex Fraser. More often then not, you'll get on the highway to discover it's not moving and you have no options.
To be honest, I think you will get sick of the commute over time and wish you had 2 hours a day back. Not to mention the additional gas and mileage (depreciation) you are putting on your vehicle.
Even if you can find something for a couple of bucks an hour less I would go with something locally as you will save money in other ways and you can't put a price on the time lost commuting on that shit route.

GL on the bridges during rush hour. For some odd reason the governments think that bridges and tunnels built when Richmond was still farmland is adequate for a mostly developed urban core.

I drove that for about a year. I'd leave my house around 6am to get to richmond a little before 7. But that was before all the queensborough construction was done. So it might be a bit faster now. But one accident on the bridge or near the bridge and the whole place becomes a parking lot. You'll get tired of that drive very quickly.

OP - where in Coq. are you? There's a 10min difference between Westwood Plateu and Maillardville.
Anyways, it's going to take 60-80 minutes for the commute, if you start at 8 or 9am.

My mom's friend used to work in Richmond and lived in Coquitlam,
she would leave her house at 6 in the morning to get to work at 7, then leave an hour early. That way she didnt catch the morning traffic.

i quit my last job cuz commute was like 1.5hrs for like 4hr shifts
mind you the pay was excellent, making it worth it mathematically if you factor in lost time, but it was just really tiring going richmond/downtown then downtown/richmond... takes a toll on you

I used to do that commute about 10 years ago (yes, I actually worked for about a year of my life, I learned my lesson the hard way). IIRC the traffic isn't that bad, since you are essentially going backwards from rush hour (in other words, you are going FROM Vancouver TO the suburbs, while everyone is going TO Vancouver)
But it's still a long way, and probably not worth it for a shitty job. Gas back then was like $0.50 a litre at most too.

I drive to Richmond everyday. I usually go thru New West either on 8th ave or 10th ave to Marine. Then take the Knight Street bridge. Usually takes me 45 minutes to an hour.

There are no Park-N-Ride lots at Skytrain stations in Coquitlam.
