only drawback is that it is SLIGHTLY less glossy.

That's the only drawback??

Powdercoating is far superior in chip resistance, chemical resistance, and corrosion resistance, than any wet paint applications...

boombastic 03-13-2010 05:33 PM

Wheels look great, would you consider selling them?

lol I was trying to sell my RS's awhile back so I could get some black rims. I went this route instead, thanks for the interest though.

hi-revs 03-13-2010 07:05 PM

If I was dumb enough to curb my wheels, I wouldn't buy aftermarket wheels in the first place.

m4k4v4li 03-16-2010 12:12 AM

did i hit a nerve? just offering an alternative. props to u on ur pro driving skills and PC rims:thumbsup:

I'm not saying it in a bad tone. I'm just saying, people who are dumb enough to curb there wheels shouldn't be buying aftermarket rims let alone painting/powdercoating them. That's all:thumbsup:

BTW, I didn't PC my rims, I bought them matte black.

Greenstoner 03-16-2010 08:19 AM

where can i fix my curbage and how much would it be ?

Mugen EvOlutioN 03-16-2010 09:08 AM

apparently spoke to a buddy of mine, he mentioned powdercoating is more linmited in terms of choosing the color vs paint.

Thinking getting my valve cover painted/powder coated

not hard, but it is time consuming, if you want to do it properly you'd have to sand it down a few times. and be good with a spray can.

try to do it in warm weather or in your garage possibly, but be careful in your garage for obvious reasons.

I'm not sure how much it'll cost but i'm guessing it's to the degree of damage.
Probably average $100 per wheel

try these guys

Mugen EvOlutioN 03-16-2010 11:16 AM

panther, nu, green are the most popular rim repair in town

they'd all be $250 + per rim, no $100 dollar crap. maybe some ghetto shop, but not from those 3 with well known reputation.

first they have to fix the curb, welding the aluminum, sand it, sand down the entire rim than finally repainting it.

took mine to NU and it was great $230 after taxes with discount, mounted and balanced

250 a rim? you must be missing a spoke or something haha. I've been to Green's a few years back to repair curbage on my one of my wedsports and it definately did not cost 250.

also they couldn't of sanded down the entire rim/paint it when I was at greens because the sa-90's has a blue ring decal around it, you can't just replace that. So I'm sure they use some other technique to avoid repainting the whole rim and keep costs low for the owner. Again, it could be related to the degree of damage so best bet is to call the shop yourself!

Mugen EvOlutioN 03-16-2010 11:23 AM

LOL

i took my advan in the other day, basically a 6" curb on the very outtery rim.

:D paint matching was great, absolutely flawless

Mugen EvOlutioN 03-16-2010 11:26 AM

$175 for panther is the benchmark for refinish as their starting point. Special finish rims, polish, chrome, will all be extra +++++++ So slightly cheaper than NU, like $40 bux cheaper :D

bent rims cost ++++

EDIT :

for ur weds, that i dont know. I know for mine they repainted the whole thing at nu. Think of it this way, when you have a scratch mark on a bumper, they are not going to spot paint that side. They will paint the entire bumper, otherwise the paint aint gonna match. Old paint vs new paint is very hard to do

vo_hantu 03-16-2010 01:51 PM

Matt lets do photoshoot! I uploaded some new pics of my new setup on fbook! Rims look good!!!

yea I had the same thought but they did an incredible job, there was no way in telling it was curbed at all, it's magic ;).

I believe for the volks or weds with stickers on rim ( ex : TE37), They will take that off and you can buy replacement stickers from Volks or weds distributor

Mugen EvOlutioN 03-17-2010 07:53 AM

except replacement stickers are hella expensive..like $70 bux for all four plus taxes

Yup, small freaking world. My parent's were like, don't you know that guy? You both have loud cars and stuff (asian parent's attitude)...

Also the other guy with us was Raid3n with the jdm Tii FC.

Apparently I heard of your car first through alfred who was at tuning spirit before, met him in HK this past dec, and he told me to say hi.

You'd rarely catch me at that place now, coz I don't live there anymore. I remember the day I came back from vacation, I was like, "why the hell is there a black teg parked in my driveway?" Lol...

Good times...
