SCAM WARNING: revenue canada someone called my aunt's house at 10pm looking for me saying he's from revenue canada. my aunt said he was arrogant and pissed when she refused to give him my info. messed up part is they called my aunts # not mine or my parents. not sure how they get her #. he also asked for me by my middle name which i don't use. i tried to look him up on the rev can website with 0 result. googled his phone and it showed wireless. buddy works at canada revenue and has reported it. heres the name he used Nelson Toy #604-240-2715 |
Looks like a pretty cut and clear case of trying for identity theft. Regardless, everyone should know that CRA will never ask you for info. They have all your info already. If anything, they'll require you to call them back. Just to be safe, you can always tell them that because you don't feel comfortable with who they claim they are, you are going to call the appropriate help line to get connect to another agent. If they are legit, they should have no issue doing this because CRA RARELY does any outgoing calls. It is mostly incoming and the outgoing calls should always come with a letter stating their intent. 99% of the time, CRA will never call you. It is always written correspondence as that is the standard and procedural way of doing things. |
That number looks familiar too. I think I had a few missed call from that number |

99% of what you said is right except the call out part, they do in fact call out a lot, depends on which department ie. collection or small business. they will usually leave a call back number if they cant reach the person they wanted to talk with. |
:lol I just checked the name today but forgot to write the number down. It is a 604-240 number but I forget the last four digits. Nelson Toy is an actual CRA employee and he works as a Trust Examiner for the Vancouver TSO. So from what I gather, it seems pretty legit. |
. |
CRA doesnt work past 8pm PST. If you live in BC and received a call at 10pm i would question it. |
If he doesn't actually work as a Trust Examiner for the Vancouver TSO, sign his number up for spam, or post a ridiculously cheap priced item on Craigslist and list his number as a contact info. ;) |

Not sure about this one as said above it may be on the up and up. Sometimes debt collectors lie and say and their from CRA. I have had more then a few do that over the years trying to gather information on past or present employees at our office. |
Information on phone number range +1 604240XXXX Number billable as mobile number Country or destination Canada City or exchange location Vancouver, BC Original network provider* TELUS Mobility this website is awesome for analyzing #'s http://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis |
its a scam. most likely the telus cell phone was stolen as well. just take CRS's advice and tell them you will call them back at the official number. ask for a reference number. |
sorry forgot to add that he didn't give his phone # when he called. aunt got the # from caller id. if its legit...i still dont know why he called my aunts house...i've never been to my aunts house...i dont even know where she lives (i know it sounds bad). |
They usually call from a blocked number in my experience. |

The number listed is his number that is listed in the CRA directory. This sounds legit but I don't know why a trustee examiner would be calling you unless you or someone you know are going through bankruptcy. |
scam no one will be calling you past 9pm |

OP: Have you ever used your aunt's number as an emergency contact? |
