The Pacific (HBO Mini-series)

Anyone catch the first episode? Don't want to spoil it for anyone by posting my thoughts on it here yet.

executive producers spielberg and hanks. basically, a WWII pacific theatre version of Band of Brothers.

Lots of contrast between The Pacific and BoB. The guys in The Pacific are a whole lot dirtier, that's for sure.

I like BoB more at the moment, simply for the fact that they're a lot more polished and organized; there's a clear chain of command.

The Pacific introduced a lot in the first episode, something like 5-8 protagonists. Too many too quickly, IMO.

Something that's bothering me is the Stifler-looking guy. I couldn't take him seriously. Sure, he may resemble someone IRL from that time, but all I could think about every time he appeared on screen was "Stifler, Stifler, Stifler". It didn't help that he had a smile on his face 9 times out of 10.
