The stuff is amazing from an engineering standpoint. Interesting concept. Why not get dedicated video cam? I'm not a super fan of the video modes on SLRs. Unless there's some distinct advantage over SLR video compared to dedicated vid cams, what's the point?

BTW, I didn't know what Zacuto was, so all I did was google "Zacuto Vancouver" to find the link :P

I do have a dedicated video cam. I just saw one of their kits and it seems pretty awesome for video cams too. Though I might upgrade to an actually dslr(7D) because it's technically more versatile than a video camera. The main selling point of new/current dslrs were the interchangable lenses. You could rarely get great DOF unless you bought a DOF adapter that can accept slr lens. That adapter alone cost 800 to 2000s easy. The only negative I see in dslrs where the controls sit(recording etc etc).

The Gorilla Kits can be a little awkward to set up, but once you do, I've heard from clients that it's a godsend. Dedicated video cameras will focus way faster than a DSLR, but you can't beat the depth of field effects. The Gorilla Kits are $800+, so not inexpensive.

The Zacuto Z-Finder will allow you to focus manually much easier than just looking at the screen with your naked eye. There is a cheaper alternative though, the Hoodman CineKit. The Zacuto is $300+, the Hoodman, $135. The difference is build quality and optics - the Zacuto has a wider field of view, the Hoodman has a 1:1 field of view.

Zacuto offers lifetime warranty plus the build quality is a lot better.

The Z-Finder is a lot more bulky though. The Hoodman isn't bad quality-wise by any means.

The one thing I don't like about the Z-Finder is the adhesive frame that you have to stick onto the back of the camera...I don't trust it...and you have to buy the frames for every body you own, or else you cant use it. I guess I'll find out how durable it is soon enough, as we've put them on our rental cameras. At least with the Hoodman, you can use it on any body you own without any additional accessory.

Zacuto is coming out with a slew of new products. Mainly being showcased at NAB. Plus three new z-finders without the adhesive style mounting bracket but a screw on type that mounts onto a tripod plate.
