Netbook decision.... Can't decide which netbook to get.... been deciding between the Asus 1005PE or the HP 210 Asus + about 1000 HKD cheaper + 14 hrs battery life with the 6 cell - 1024x600 res - no HD decoding capability HP + 1366x768 res + broadcom hardware HD decoder + newer N470 processor (1.8Ghz) - standard 3 cell battery or I'm thinking of waiting for the ION2 which should be out soon. the Asus model should be 12 inchs..... tbh its too big as a netbook... but performance wise should be the most acceptable. anyone have experience with these 2 models? |
You'll be sorry if you don't get something with at least a CULV. THose Atoms are REALLY FUCKING SLOW. I can't even remember using a CPU as slow as these.. Maybe Pentium II? It's pretty much unusable for anything, even web browsing is ridiculously slow (since web browsing no longer means just viewing text pages, and is actually quite CPU intensive now). Wait for ION2, or get a Celeron if you need one now. And forget getting anything without at least 1366 wide res. |
Don't get a Netbook. They're pretty useless. I've used them myself personally and they suck. |
I picked up an HP mini 311 and I'm pretty happy with it. It's the slower model with the 1.6ghz Atom, but it has an ION chip. As long as you have 2gb ram it's very usable. I mainly use it to for some emails and browse the web. Most video's are fine except 1080p, but if you're buying a netbook for 1080p you're barking up the wrong tree. SkinnyPupp is right with the screen and CPU speed. Don't get anything smaller than 1366. You can really see how slow the CPU is when you unzip something. I've never seen the progress bar move so slow in a while. I think the last time I had to wait this long to unzip a 1gb file was back in day of FTPing for games. Another very important thing, the trackpads are a pain in the ass! They're way too small. |
I love my Acer AS1410. CULV + 1366x768 + 11.6" + 8hour battery |
nice looks like I'll pick up the 1810TZ.... its under 5K HKD... and performance of a notebook.... |
I'm currently looking at something with these requirements too. Thinking about the Inspiron 11z. |
I'm opposite - I want something bigger, and capable of playing games. I have an awesome 13.3" Fujitsu, and I love it in every way (even as a souvenir, since it's from my first trip to Japan). But it can't play games so I might need to replace it :( |

the price range on the 1810TZ seems to be huge in hk... it range from $3900 RMB to $5100..... seems a lot of ppl are able to buy the older Vista version for $4300.... with SU4100, 2GB and 250GB HDD.... I guess I have to shop around. edit: Just found a lot more of it on Taobao... they are as low as $2500 RMB!!! |

that one even runs crysis! |
luckly I've been doing some research.... the new replacement for the 1810tz should be coming out in a week or two... on the upcoming 1830, the processor has been upgraded to a core i5 520UM yet still provide 8 hrs of battery life! |
it's Hyde, so I expect this is just one of his show off gadgets...performance means nothing to him, as long as it gets girls at Starbucks. If this one is for work, then I suggest you get something more powerful. I returned 2 netbooks (Asus 1001HA, Hasee x130) to our IT, they won't play DVD (with Powerpoint running) smoothly. Then I returned a Sony X-series, which isn't better although it's fucking nice and slim. I am waiting for my new Fujitsu LH530 coming in April. I3, 2gb, 320gb, 14" 2.2kg, Win7 |
NETBOOKS are WAY underpowered.. i cant even play facebook games properly.. haha.. |
get the alienware m11x, just got mine lastweek and this puppy is frikken great i love it plays most new games at med-high settings and has up to 7-8 hours (at minimal power usage) battery life! its a little pricey but starts off at 899! i'm actually debating on getting another one! If anyone wants to see it in person send me a message i'll be glad to show it off :P |
Netbooks are supposed to be light, thin, and inexpensive. The M11x isn't any of those. |

Core i7, Quad SSD in RAID 0, 330GTM video card, 1920x1080 resolution and 8GB ram.... |
last post didn't add the quotes but it was directed at skinny :P @renn - sony z is nice but dam that configuration cost 4k+ if your already looking at the 1810t you should wait for the ix refresh the 1830t due out soon(official by acer). pricing on that is still being debated in the acer forums but it might push the 700 mark, |
UL30JT when it comes out. |
