Best destinations for traveling alone...

So some of my friends have done backpacking on their own to South America and Southeast Asia. I am thinking about going on a trip by myself in the coming months too, but preferably some cities in North America. The trip will be under 10 days and I got around $1000 +/- to spend.

Any good suggestions?

1000?? you will have to increase your budget.

Ok, in all seriousness - $1000 to spend - is this budgeted for the ENTIRE trip? Or just for living expenses (i.e. food/hostel/souvenirs etc.)

oops forgot to mention, its airplane tickets $$$ AND the 1000+ $$$...

What do you like doing? I think it would be more expensive in North America than say Asia and South America. I went to China for 2 weeks went to 4 different cities, did and saw alot of things. I spent about 1k for my plane ticket, but only spent 700 for everything (food, travel, gifts etc...). I did stay at hostels the entire time tho.

I would like to know as well...
I wanna do backpacking... my max budget would be $5000 I guess for 3 wks..
any recommndation or advise for backpacking?

I am thinking about going to Asia again next year, because I have relatives all over and they can give me places to stay. I was in China for about a month and it was a great experience. For now I am thinking just going to a large city area in North America, walk around and do some sight seeing. Perhaps also go check out a large concert/festival that is happening in the area. I am thinking somewhere around NYC or Cali/LA?

i went to LA/LV/San deigo last summer and i only spent 2000 or maybe not even loll
(that includes hotel, things i bought, and going to Disneyland/universal studio/ and sea world. Rented a car with friends and everything) and we went for around
2 in a half weeks~

just search online on like bookit.com
to look for deals on places because it is possible to save a lot of moneyy

While I spend a lot of time in SoCal/NorCal, your best bet for solo travel is NYC based on personal experience. :)

1000 wont go far in nyc.
i recommend either miami (spend most of your days on the beach), or somewhere in cali

Maybe you should just go to Portland and shop for 10 days...With $1000 it's pretty limited.

On a budget, and with the strong CAD, I think NYC is fine for $1000. You don't have to eat out at michelin places! NYC is fun!

autocouture 03-28-2010 08:17 PM

$1000 is a not alot for NYC, NoCal, SoCal. If your $1000 doesn't include airfare and hotel I would suggest Thailand or the Philippines. You can live pretty lavishly for 10 days with about $1000.

Thailand. You can be pampered like a king and the money conversion works very well in Canadian's favor.

As a licensed medical practitioner, I agree. Use protection, keep your mouth as far as possible from the whore, and make sure they're the gender you're looking for. If you want a tranny, I won't judge, but getting sucked off by a dude(when you're not looking for it) is equivalent to being raped. And they don't make rape kits for men.
