Decent Deal?

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...646196190.html

Seems like a killer deal, without having to send money through Western Union :haha:

No Accidents... but needs to replace the idle speed control.
Celicas generally go for a lot more, and this one even has mods.

I'm thinking of driving down there to take a look at the car, if its just the idle speed control that needs replacing, I don't see too big of a problem with that. Does anybody know how many kms Celica motors generally go for? Anything else I should take a look at while looking at the car?

Is the Idle speed control something hard to fix? How long would it take to get replaced at a mechanics?

Thanks.

TRD Rs200 03-23-2010 12:17 AM

give him a call and see whats up, hopefully its not a rebuilt. other than that. I would also say its a killer deal

hchang 03-23-2010 12:24 AM

Well in the ad he said it's not a rebuild, and also has no accidents.

What I'm more worried about is the magnetic N on the back. Most New Drivers that I know never take care of their cars properly...

Ikkaku 03-23-2010 01:26 AM

lol one of the ugliest kits for our car

Inaii 03-23-2010 01:30 AM

Lol, ONLY costs $550? Seems like a pretty expensive only.

Well added to the price of the car he's selling, $550 + $4500 = $5050. Seems fair, and no one pays asking price.

jpark 03-23-2010 08:08 AM

seriously do not know why people post pics of their cars WITH the 'N' magnet on the back on craigslist.....

Mugen EvOlutioN 03-23-2010 08:27 AM

6 speed? so im guessing its a GTS? i didnt know GTS came with 6 speed, thought it would be 5 speed for its manual gearbox

celica gts has the 2zz-ge from yamaha same as the ninth gen 2005 and 2006corollas, and they all came with 6speed

Mr.Jay 03-23-2010 08:53 AM

damn, thats a pretty good deal.

I would go take a look at it tho, get it inspected if you are serious about buying it

hotong 03-23-2010 08:57 AM

the rear looks a bit odd

fliptuner 03-23-2010 09:16 AM

It doesn't say it's not imported (from another province or the US).

Ask yourself, if you were selling a car that was worth say $7K (just a #, IDK what the market value is on Celicas), why wouldn't you just pay the $500 to make an extra $2k on the sale?

1zzfe = celica GT and normal corolla (if they even come in manual) = 5spd
2zzge = celica gts and corolla xrs = 6spd

True, I was more laughing at the fact that he seemed to be trying to downplay it. It's still fairly expensive.

hchang 03-23-2010 02:39 PM

I called the guy, and he said he's the third owner.

The clutch is starting to slip, so might need replacing soon. (which obviously means it needs to be replaced ASAP)

The tires aren't in perfect condition (Needs new tires ASAP)

And there are some cracks in the paint and on the body kit.

New alarms, brakes and rotors done a month ago.

What scares me the most is that theres no maintenance records at all for the car... no timing belt, water pump, tire rotations, tune ups, oil changes, or anything of the car.

Think its still worth the trip out?

JqC 03-23-2010 02:42 PM

The price alone warrants the trip out. Just make sure you get the car checked out by a mechanic before buying.

GabAlmighty 03-23-2010 02:42 PM

Drive it and see how it feels. If you're so worried pay the $100 and have a shop look at it.

How about you just go and talk to the owner, not here...?

Don't you make a new thread for every car your interested in that you're not even going to buy?

I'm not bashing you, just saying.

Well my thread explained my talk with the owner. My question was if it is still worth my trip out? Obviously I won't ask the owner that, cause he will say "yes yes car very good, come see car, you will like car then buy car"

I made a thread last time with all the possibilities of cars I might've gotten. And actually, I did end up getting a car I brought up. The 2000 Mazda Protege LX. I asked all those questions to get a feel of opinions and worked out great. Have not had to replace anything on the Mazda yet

The Celica would not be a necessity that I must get, but if its a fun car, I wouldn't mind selling this one, then buying that one.

hk20000 03-23-2010 04:50 PM

dude "worth the trip out?" you are buying a car not some broccolis.

AsianSurprize 04-20-2010 12:43 AM

I talked to this guy. He sounds sketchy as eff lol. Not sure if you're still looking at it but when I asked about it he said he couldn't even meet me somewhere to take a look at it because he didn't trust driving it 5km.

There's a lot of potential hazards that aren't worth your time imo.

StylinRed 04-20-2010 01:52 AM

edit: holy shit i just noticed this is an old thread...

damn troll bumping an old thread... the craigslist posting is gone how do you even know its the same person?
