| HELP!! Netbook advice???
I'm looking at netbooks and I really don't know what's good and what's not.
From what I've seen:
The Atom N270 processor is garbage
The Atom N280 processor is decent
The Atom Z-series processor is good
Am I right?
What am I looking for in a decent but affordable netbook in terms of a processor?
What I'm planning on doing with it is mainly word processing for school (Open Office or Microsoft Office) surfing the web, uploading pictures and videos.
For anything more serious (such as photo editing) I have my laptop.
I'm leaning towards Toshiba for the simple fact that I've been using my Toshiba laptop for about 3 yrs usually 5-10 hrs a day and it's still working flawlessly, but open to ANY and all suggestions and ideas.
Thanks,
T.

umm, you already said it yourself, your surfing the web, and doing WD's.. do you really think a N270 -> N280 will see big improvements?
N270's netbooks are dirt cheap now.. My dad and I both have netbooks using N270's (im using one right now) and surfing the web/WD's watching youtube is no problem... the drawback to the majority of netbooks is that you cannot watch 1080P.
I suggest you take a look at the Samsung NC10.. yes is older, but it has great features for the price. (6 cell battery, 96% keyboard, everything a netbook has, + good service/warranty)

I don't like any of Toshiba's offerings for netbooks. I suggest something with the new atom processors N450.

Go for the Toshiba T110D. AMD Neo X2 processor, faster than Atom - it's more like an ultraportable than a netbook.
11.6" LCD, 320GB HDD. Not a bad one, if I do say so myself.

I just grabbed a HP 210. Its fairly quick N450 (1.66Ghz). Does everything a Netbook should. Only gripe is it gets a bit toasty almost unbearable to lay on your lap. Also Flash video playback is pretty bad.
I paid $359+tax. http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en...6-4125832.html

I have an HP mini 311. It has the N270 and isn't that bad, but that might be due to the Nvidia ION.
One great thing on the 311, there is a hacked BIOS where you can overclock the CPU. I'm running N270 at 2.0 Ghz and it is a pleasure to use now.

thanks for all the advice, keep it coming
I'm not going to overclock or hack anything, and from what I've read, I'm staying away from the N270.
How good is the battery life on something like the Toshiba T110? (I haven't been able to find that for sale, but did find a T130 at FutureShop)
I'm considering a mini laptop (13"-ish) instead of a Netbook, but I'm worried about the battery life on those.
My price range...I would REALLY like something with an N450 (or equivalent, or better), 250 GB HDD, and at least 8hrs battery life for 350-400...Bluetooth would be nice too, as I have a few BT accessories. I realize that's a tall order, but that's why I'm trying to do my research instead of just walking into Best Buy and grabbing the first one I lay my hands on.

Why not take the leap up to the ULV processors (the SU series processors). They're dual core and ultra low voltage so they don't suck up a lot of juice.
I'm considering getting rid of my Lenovo S10 for an Asus UL20 series...

i have n270 1.6ghz (asus EEE) and i feel that its more than enough processing power to do whatever i need on my EEE.
-MS office
-web browsing, revscene, facebook etc
-youtube
-downloading
-video player
-Msn, skype
-hook it up to a LCD and play some DOTA/SC no problem!
-barely lags, 2gb ram with W7 and xp dualboot
what else is there to do on a netbook

What you asked for, for 459.99.
Battery life should be around the 8-hour mark using the supplied 6-cell battery... just upgrade RAM and you should be good to go.
