they shouldn't have used infinity in the 7th, that part kinda threw it off. the 5th and 6th I think are kinda wack, the 7th I kinda get but it depends on how you think of the universe. all in all though, I don't really see how any of that matters for anything beyond the 4th dimension.

An interesting way of portraying the concept. It's been played with to various degrees in science fiction for decades really.

Event Horizon-His engine takes the ship travels by shifting dimensions(much like the ant on the newspaper) by folding space. The movie takes its drama from picking up something from one of the dimensions it travels through.

A wrinkle in time-great book to read when I was younger. Same concept. She refers to it as a tesseract, but it basically involves folding space to travel to different dimensions.

Star Trek-well covered. My understanding is the warp engine folds space around the ship to travel at faster than light. Although this type of travel is theoretically impossible, it succeeds by moving the space around the ship faster than light, while the ship itself is stationary. Once the ship hits warp ten, it actually moves to a next dimensional plane to where it will occupy all points of the universe simultaneously. This was covered in one poorly done episode, which is a shame because the concept is intriguing.

Thanks for the highlight of the video.

Guess you read Wrinkle in Time in Gr7 as well? :) Yeah, the first thing that came to mind while watching the video was a tesseract as well. The 3D projection in Wiki is pretty trippy. :)

Event Horizon was such a crappily done movie, but the premise was pretty neat.

Anyone else here taken Linear Algebra? You cover things like this, as well as Real vs Complex planes..

^ I have, some interesting shit in that class.

vexor 03-28-2010 05:41 PM

What???????

trip 03-28-2010 06:18 PM

the explanation of how time is linear as dimensions go up goes great with the research of ian lungold who explains how/why time is speeding up and we have less hours each day but we just dont know it

Actually he did not say time is speeding up, he said the evolution of creation is speeding up and can be referenced on the Mayan Calendar. Hence all of the advancements in the past 100 years compared to thousands of years of human civilization.

^ thanks

I never read it as part of a class-shit, I wish they would have put a decent book in my hands.

My sister had the series and I just started one day in around grade 5. It was my first taste of science fiction. Fascinating concepts.

jtanner_ 03-28-2010 07:53 PM

Pretty interesting... it's definitely a lot to think about

SkinnyPupp 03-28-2010 08:02 PM

Interesting portrayal of whacky sci-fi.

Edit: Actually it isn't very interesting at all. They took some neat sci-fi concepts and made it seem like a school lesson. Stopped about halfway through part 2. They did do a good job of describing the dimensions that exist though, but their half-baked concepts of "the dimensions beyond" didn't come across as well.

Yes. To you, I can probably be considered retarded. Because I am not a fucking moron who believes fantasy is reality.

I don't think you would know what reality is even if it smacks you in the ass. Continue living in your sheltered sheeple of a life.

Yes, please tell me all about your version of reality.
