PS3 Repair

So my 80gb PS3 f'n died on me, think it's to do with heating issues. Has anyone fixed there PS3, as in opened it up? If so, where did you get that specific screwdriver you need to open it.

Or if anyone knows where I can take my PS3 to get it fixed that would be info much appreciated.

Canadian Tire sells the Torx 10 that you need to open it, it isn't the fancy "security" one with the hole in the middle, but if you press down hard enough it works just fine.

I've fixed three of these, it's pretty easy if you have the tools and a bit of know-how. Shoot me a PM if you'd like some info on how to do it yourself, or I can post it here.

As far as fixing them I can do it for you but I live in Kelowna and won't be back to Kelowna for 3 weeks.

so I went and did what is said on this video:
. And it didn't fix my PS3...frack! Anyone know any shops, like something at crystal mall where I can get my PS3 fixed? And thanks for the offer underscore, but Kelowna is out of my way.

well first, have you tried a new power supply or harddrive? for the drive you can even try booting without it, and see if you get an error telling you to put one in. for a power supply I have two spares that are the style like in the video, I'll likely be in Van in mid May and can bring one back/down if needed.

also, are you sure that you got it hot enough for long enough? try heating it a bit longer, and be sure to use no-clean flux with it (something I think gilksy fails to mention)
