911fanatic vs 04 Vette

Client picked this vette up last fall and wanted it polished up for this summer. Neither of us suspected the horror that awaited! The car was originally booked in for a one day, single stage polish. At noon on the second day I wasn't around the car once yet so my trusty sidekick T-dawg came out. We eventually spent a total of 17 hours on this car. I was better off to spend the extra time on the car and deliver it in awesome shape then to just do the job quoted and have it look like ass as soon as the sun came out.

Jambs, engine, emblems cleaned up with AG Powermax3 and RG brushes
Car was presoaked with Powermax3 to strip any old LSP
Washed with Megs Hyper wash.
Tires and wheels cleaned with AG Custom Wheel Cleaner
Clayed with Bilt Hamber Soft Clay with OID as lube
Flex 3403, GI Orange, Gi Grey Wool, Menz Compounding, LC Black, Menz PG, Menz PF, Scholl S30
Colli 845
Blackfire All Metal Sealant on wheels
White Pearl Tire Dressing
Glass polished with DG Nu Glass on Flex with 4" white LC pad

The offender.

Even before washing under a cloudy sky you could see the damage. This should have been a sign.

Dirty jambs.

Hmmmm.......
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...DSC_0007-1.jpg

Emblems were so caked that even after soaking them for 30 - 40 minutes in APC and using brushes, we still couldn't get them 100% clean. That would have required removing them.

Even some holograms tossed in for good measure!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...DSC_0020-1.jpg

First attempt at the hood was PG and GI Orange Compounding pad
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...DSC_0023-1.jpg

Not the result I was hoping for
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...DSC_0024-1.jpg

Next try was GI Grey Wool and Scholl S03+.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...DSC_0025-1.jpg

Still not good enough. Decided to say screw it for now and start on the sides which got PG and Menz compounding pad. I eventually came back to the hood and beat it into submission with GI grey wool and PG at 1800 rpm. The whole car was eventually done with Menz PF on LC orange and Scholl S03+ on LC black.

Wow, very impressive job.

Did the buyer not know the condition of the car before buying it?

He honestly didn't believe it was that bad until i loaded the pics onto my computer and showed him. He was VERY appreciative after that!

roastpuff 03-31-2010 11:35 AM

Wow, nasty damage! Surprised at how hammered it was... what did they do, fling a sandblaster at it repeatedly?

Matsuda 04-02-2010 09:59 AM

my Volvo looks just as bad..god I need it detailed, there's a huge knife scratch on my drivers side door going to the passenger side door =(. That Corvette looks great now after you worked on it!

Klutch 04-07-2010 09:47 PM

911fanatic 04-07-2010 10:25 PM
