Raw food diet bargains

Figured i'd post up a thread of grocery specials since most people think feeding dog a raw diet is crazy expensive.
From now till april 1st fresh chicken breast 1.99/lb @ T&T

Lil Bastrd 03-30-2010 11:31 AM

T&T is great. I go there to pick up organs, turkey necks, chicken necks, and they also have unbleached tripe (but I haven't been brave enough to deal with stuff that hasn't already been ground. its messy and stinky so I just pay more for already ground)
Their prices on this stuff isn't bad and unlike some stores they usually have stock.

You guys just need to go to this one place - Surrey Meat Packers Ltd.

www.surreymeatpackersltd.com

Prices range from $1 to $1.50 for anything from ground beef, pork, chicken, turkey and combinations thereof.

You buy them in a minimum of 10lbs bags.

I've got an eight pound Yorkie and he goes through a 10lbs bag in 40 days. At $15 a 10lbs bag that's $0.375 a day to feed my dog.

You guys should check it out; my dog loves this stuff.

Suprisingly the turkey necks and organs tripe etc are usually above my 1.99$lb per lb limit.
Last week was 1.99 for bone in pot roast.
Only thing I dont like about the meat packers is that you dont actually know whats ground in there. How are their normal specials for human consumption? I'd rather know exactly what i'm feeding them.

I've found there is too much water added to the blended meat. You end up paying for something you don't use as the frozen water adds weight.
They also don't monitor how much fat, skin, and meat is actually in the blend.

Surrey Meat Packer's has what I would call mystery dog food!!! You never know what you are truly getting there could be anything in the mix! Lil Bastrd is right the amount of water in there food is insane!

There normal prices for human consumption are on the normal side, only thing is the quality is questionable. I got some steaks from there before and they were very poor cuts.

does anyone know where you can buy pig femurs? thanks in advance

Lil Bastrd 04-11-2010 04:04 PM

With some of the bargains though you do have to watch that it isn't stuff that has been sitting for awhile. Unless it was from the day before or that day I won't use it. Alot of times the marked down items have been out for more then two days. Which is fine if your cooking the meat, but when you are using it raw the bacteria will be too high.

Death2Theft 04-12-2010 11:21 AM

The stuff i'm posting are week long specials.

Lil Bastrd 04-12-2010 12:48 PM

yes, just I always check the packing date as some specials are done to help slow moving product move.

I go to Millingtons Quality Butcher they are in PoCo at the Westwood Shopping Centre. (one block from SuperStore)

$ 2.00 for ground meet (Beef - Chicken or Buffalo) at that is the regular price.

Digging up an old thread.

Been looking at ways of cleaning up my dog's teeth and was told that giving them raw beef bones are the best ways of removing plaque and tartar build up.

Do any of you give your dogs raw bones? Where do you guys go to get your supply?

Lil Bastrd 08-24-2010 12:01 PM

I do. Most places that carry raw food will also carry raw bones.

Try a butcher shop, you may have some luck there.
