ipod nano connection compatibility

i had a ipod nano 1 gb prolly the 1st gen and i was wondering if the 4th gen conection wire is the same . the one with the usb hookup on it

Is it? So I got a wire to I could hook up my 1st gen ipod to my car.not the one that plugs in the headset jack but the one which u plug in the bottom it also charges it. So any nano will work even a chromatic?

i picked up a 4th gen nano it works in my car adapter but it doesnt allow it to charge it, i could do so with my first gen. Is there any sort of adapter that can upgrade my wire connector or something so it can charge my ipod in my car

What kind of car adapter are you using? While the physical connector has always been the same, the function of the connector pinouts may have changed. You'd probably have to go to the manufacturer for an updated cable for the newer unit.
