making a false floor
 

any one has any tips? thinking about getting a 4ch, mono + sub in the trunk so I can still have space when going to ikea :p

Are you looking for a step by step guide? That's going to take forever on this keyboard. I type really slowly.
I think that the best way to do it is to watch someone who's done them before, or get them to do it for you. There are so many things to remember, so many tricks, that it's tough to tell over the internet.
Do you have a good supplier of fibreglass supplies?

what I'm doing is cheap and dirty, just raise it by 4 inches, put a truck compact box in it. (I'm not big on bass)

truck box with a 10" shallow sub, a amp rack then mdf all around.

I know cooling is big so I got plans for putting fans in. But What I'm interested to know is how do you have everything secure to the car. I'm not big with drilling into my car. I got dynamat extreme which I laid into the trunk as well.

Why don't you come by our shop and take a look at my simple (yet effective) false floor. Its super clean but requires some special techniques and some cool products locally available.

99 accord has a large spare tire well. Its easy to raise the floor slightly to stash a slim box and sub in there. To fasten things down when you don't want to use screws through the well you can attach to the spare tire anchor or use windshield eurethane to bond a panel in place to screw everything to (its normal use is to adhere the windsheild to your car). Windshield eurethane is a structural adhesive that withstands moisture vibration heat and extream cold. It is available for about 10 bucks from any auto parts store.

You could also use construction adhesive.

so more or less glue it to the floor of the trunk?

Adhere is such a better choice of words.:D

But yes glue a panel to the floor and fasten everything to that.

We would suggest silicone, not glue, unless you never want to remove it.

What do you guys use for material? mdf? I was looking online some say that MDF is too heavy.

thanks, I REALLY want to do this myself. Not the cost issue but I love to try new things so please excuse all the noob-ish questions.

If your just sticking a prefab box in there and building the floor around it ( I think thats what my understanding of what your doing is ) then you don't need to use MDF you can use plywood as the "floor" If your actually building the box yourself use MDF as its properties are most desirable for making boom. It doesn't flex or resonate like plywood does and stays together. There is a reason its used for box's. If your worried about weight don't put a stereo in.

If possible... remove the carpet from your trunk (it might be attached to the rear seats but will come off with the plastic clips. Take the carpet out and use that to trace the new rear floor so you get the right shape. Depending on contours of your trunk it might be hard to get it in in one piece so what I did to mine is cut it and put a hinge on it so that it can slide in and then you just swing the hinged part over and bam you got your floor.

No pics. I built a square box and used fiberglass for the top to hold the subs and have them raised on alternate angles right behind the rear seats. The amp is near the hatch under plexi. The hinged part isn't very big on mine its in the corner right behind the tail light but its a lifesaver when taking the box in and out. There is enough room under the amp to hold a Nitrous bottle too. Not that I have one in there anymore.... lol

Oh also, if your raising the floor a bit your contours will change so the carpet dimensions might be a little small. This happens because where there are bends and stuff on the panels when you change height you gain more space. Get a cardboard box and trace it on there first. Cut that out and if you need to extend any area's you can see with the cardboard cutout.
