The difference between Honda F1 and Honda Sportscar

From Honda official website...http://www.honda.co.jp/F1/spcontents2006/f1catalogue/

Honda F1 engine generates over 720 horsepower out of 2.4L V8 NA engine.

http://www.honda.co.jp/F1/spcontents.../images/p1.jpg

Honda F1 engine pumps up more than 6 times horsepower/weight than Honda S2000.
Honda S2000 engine: 242hp, the 2.2L 4cyl engine weighs approx 200kg(440lbs)
Honda F1 engine: 720+hp, the 2.4L V8 engine weighs approx 95kg(209lbs)
do the math..

http://www.honda.co.jp/F1/spcontents.../images/p2.jpg

Honda F1 engine displaces 2.4L, however the engine inhales 3.2L of air

http://www.honda.co.jp/F1/spcontents.../images/p1.jpg

that translates to 500L of air/second at 19,000rpm

http://www.honda.co.jp/F1/spcontents.../images/p2.jpg

it takes 5.2 seconds for NSX to reach 100km/h
it takes 5.2 seconds for Honda F1 to reach 200km/h
(0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds, 100km/h to 200km/h in 1.5 seconds)

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_q2vSQ-RGLP...-back-3_70.jpg

The F1 machine can generate 2000kg(4400lbs) of downforce at 300km/h
The machine weighs approx 600kg(1320lbs with driver)...therefore it can go upside down no problem

http://www.honda.co.jp/F1/spcontents.../images/p1.jpg

Letting go a gas pedal in F1 machine = Slamming on brake in NSX

When you leg go a gas padal, the Honda F1 machine creates approx 1.0 deceleration G (same as NSX's full braking capability), if you slam on F1 machine's brake, you will generate 4.5 deceleration G.

http://www.honda.co.jp/F1/spcontents.../images/p1.jpg

The cornering G of Honda F1 is 4.5times greater than NSX's approx 1.0G.

http://www.honda.co.jp/F1/spcontents.../images/p2.jpg

The powersteering for F1 machine is not so that you can steer...the F1 machine is really light, you don't need it

http://www.honda.co.jp/F1/spcontents.../images/p2.jpg

The purpose of F1 powersteering is to fight the G-force during the corner. Therefore the purpose is totally different than passenger vehicles like NSX and S2000.

Very cool and interesting infos, thanks for posting them!

sonick 04-19-2010 01:08 PM

Summary: F1 cars are way faster than road-legal sports cars.

TOPEC 04-19-2010 01:49 PM

wow timpo actually posted some interesting stuff
the part that stumped me was how a combined displacement of 2.4L inhale 3.2L of air?

roastpuff 04-19-2010 02:08 PM

Compression... the compression ratio is very high for F1.

Too bad no more Honda in F1. :(

Yup, they grew up and traded up for a Mercedes.:haha:

And before they did that, Ross Brawn turned the Honda F1 team into his Brawn GP team that went on to winning last year. So pretty much it was still Honda design with the Mercedes engine. So surprise how well they did. But I guess considering Honda pretty much wrote off the 2007 season to develop the car for next season, I guess they had a pretty good head start.

Honda F1
100-200km/h: 1.5 seconds

Honda NSX
100-200km/h: 12.6 seconds

McLaren F1
100-200km/h: 6.2 seconds

Bugatti Veyron
100-200km/h: 4.9 seconds
