No cable subscription

my family recently took out our cable subscription, but i'm wondering if ill still be able to get cbc without it?

am i wrong or did i hear before that u didn't need a subscription to a provider in order to get channel 3?

sorry in advance if this is in the wrong section.

When I was living out east that was the case. I actually got like 3 channels.

TOPEC 04-21-2010 05:29 PM

without cable u get channels 2-28 only.

azncreationz 04-21-2010 05:30 PM

Yes, you should be able to pick up at least 3 channels still.

No, you have to pay for this...this is 'basic cable'.

chouchou 04-21-2010 05:31 PM

wierd, can't seem to get it through to my tv.
i run the cable through my vcr, though.. since my tv's tuner is busted (i think..?)
still should work though right? can't get 3 to work =(
guess ill have to livestream again...

murd0c 04-21-2010 05:32 PM

best bet is to stream it off the net if you can or pay for basic cable your self

You can get CBC and CTV SD and HD, if you are using rabbit ears.. point the antenna Noth towards the North Shore mountains.

FYI CBC is channel 2 with ant.... you won't pick anything up on chan 3 with antena. should get about 6 channels with anteana. 3 or 4 in HD with a good one.

whoops ur right, thought 2-28 was always free.

vitaminG 04-21-2010 08:08 PM

ya if your using an antenna you should be able to get cbc, as previously stated its channel two over the air. We used to have an antanna at my old work and we actually got a few channels with it, cbc, ctv, kvos, chek tv, and at least one other one too. CBC came in pretty good though

tiger_handheld 04-21-2010 09:27 PM

how do u get HD via rabbit ears?

JesseBlue 04-21-2010 09:35 PM

ota..go to digitalhome.ca...
i haven't had cable for 2-3 years ... well i had satellite when it was up... but i did create my own antenna...screw the youtube hanger antenna and read up on a better design (similar looking) and you'll be in for a surprise, especially living in vancouver..

I'm in surrey and i get cbc hd, global hd, ctv hd, city tv hd, omni hd/sd, kvos, and some analog...

JesseBlue 04-21-2010 09:36 PM

oh yah...you're tv should have an atsc tuner built in or get a atsc box to get the hd / digital feeds...

-dOh- 04-21-2010 09:43 PM

yea i built an HD antenna.. works perfectly.. you can get CBC, CTV, couple other channels.. all in HD !!!

DuhDang 04-21-2010 09:47 PM

sell you my ghetto antenna for $10 grabs like 10 hd channels

Anjew 04-21-2010 09:48 PM

go to your TV's menu (channel submenu) switch antenna from "CATV" to "AIR" and unplug the coax cable from the outlet you used to receive cable from....

choda 04-21-2010 09:58 PM

how do you make one of those antennas that pick up HD ?
