Compustar - can't turn off proximity sensor pre-warning I recently bought a car and found it has a Nustart 3500 (same as a Compustar 2W-FM I believe) installed with an Asianwolf dual-zone proximity sensor in place of the shock sensor. The prox sensor looks like it's been installed properly including diodes on both the interior and exterior zone wires to prevent any potental feedback. The problem is that I can't turn off the exterior zone warning once it's been triggred. The alarm becomes completely unresponsive to the remote. I have to set off the alarm by opening a door or triggering the interior zone of the proximity sensor, and then I can turn off the alarm so that it responds again. I've already tried replacing the remote batteries and changing the prox sensor sensitivity. Any other ideas? |
Yes. That's an issue with those systems. You have a couple of choices... Cut the warn-away wire or remove the sensor. |
You mean an an issue with the Nustart, this specific brand of proximity sensor, or proximity sensors in general? What causes it? |
It's a NuStart thing. From what the techs tell me, it has something to do with the frequency of the system itself. It feeds back through it and gets stuck in a loop. |
Do you know if this issue also happens with the Nustart and just a regular dual-stage shock sensor? I'm considering replacing the prox sensor with a shock sensor, then maybe splicing back in the prox sensor without the warn-away or plugging it in as an optional input. Thanks for the insights ... I never would've been able to figure this out by just troubleshooting this on my own. |
