Dynamat or Some other Performance Mod?
 

Hey guys, I just recently bought my 2000 Toyota Celica, and was wondering if you guys could give me some input on mod I should do.

Option 1:

I'm thinking about Dynamatting the car because there are a few things that rattle, most likely because the previous owner had a sub in the trunk. A friend of a friend of mine offered to do the whole car for $450 including labor and materials. He said he would be using closed cell foam, a dynamat equivalent and some heavy paint.. Not sure if this is a good price, but I thought I'd bring it up on the board since you guys probably know a lot more. The problem with Dynamatting is that it's going to add around 100lbs to my car, and not adding any performance at all.

Option 2:

Considering I'm paying nearly $500 bucks to reduce a bit of sound in my car.. I was also considering just upgrading from my stock suspension lowered on sportline spring to the Tein SS set up. I saw a few sets for around 1.3k to 1.5k. I'm not sure whether it's worth the 1000 dollars either. But with that I would at least some performance differences, and it might actually help with the rattling a bit....

Anyways, I'm thinking about those two options, any of your guys' input would be great in leading me in the right direction... :thumbsup:

Any suggestions on a different Suspension upgrade or upgrade in general?

unless u have absolutely nothing left to mod, or got too much cash to blow. than by all means do it, i did mine and mehhhhhh didnt really feel shit other than a hole in my wallet


btw cely are pretty fun to drive, with a set of SS im sure driving around town will be even more suitable for spirit driving.

theres tons of alternatives way cheaper than dynamat, search on google.

You can get cheaper suspension than that. like springs and shocks. dont really need coilovers, but i guess it depends on what you want from the car

suspension upgrades are the best

Don't see how stiffer suspension would help with the rattling either...

easiest and cheapest solution to your rattling problem:
Turn up the tunes

i do admite that rattling is annoying as hell

if it's the car shown in your profile, spend the money on a different sets of rims, you'll be happier !

If you can hear the rattling then the stereo isn't loud enough lol

But $450 to do the whole car is cheap. I'd question his ability to do it right and using the right materials in the right application. I've done sound deadning jobs in excess of $2000 but that crazy guy wanted his Ford superduty to sound like his mercedes.

less likely chance of rattle of plastic = less weight= slightly better performance = ???? = profit!

someone told me to rip everything out of your trunk spray primer everywhere.then use this material called blueprint (not 100% if its called that,but its something around that name).works just like dynamat and is cheaper too:thumbsup:

or rip everything out and spray WD-40 all over, should stop the rattle

helps deaden sound a little. just a little.

Why not find out whats rattling first and then target those areas. Adding a layer of Dynomat over the whole car would be like getting a condom that covers your whole body when you just need to cover one area.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for all of your quick responses. I guess I'll try to figure out where exactly the problems are coming from but I think it's mostly my spoiler as the fin actually has two positions.. I think it's a TRD spoiler but idk. I was also looking at getting the Tein Coilover but I'm not sure whether it would be a huge difference over my stock suspension lowered on sportline springs.

I was also wondering if there were any other celica owners out there... I haven't seen like any modded Celicas in Vancouver and CelicaGarage is pretty dead.

Also.. there's a few paint blemishes and problems with the paint, and a couple dents that I want to get out.. Any recommendations for a good place to do this? I also was thinking of getting a new pair of side skirts but I talked to someone about it and they said it was around 350 for installation and painting.. and that might not even include molding or anything.. :confused:

If any of you guys could put me in the right direction that would be awesome.. I have so many questions =(

Those are all mostly older generation celicas though...

Dynamat the whole car? :haha: Unless your out of options for actual mods I wouldnt do it, you could get canuck springs and struts and get it all installed for pretty cheap.
