Canon canon speedlite 430ex ii external power Anyway to power a canon speedlite 430ex ii or any E-TTL II compatible flash with A/C power. I need something that will do around a 1000 flashes with live view on without having to replace batteries. The camera is a canon rebel xs. |
Nope. The 580EXII can be powered externally via a battery pack like a Quantum, but not the 430EXII. |
Senna4ever thanks for the info. I think I'm going to return the camera and flash and by an older high end Canon point and shoot like a G10 or a S5 IS. The problem with the whole Canon Rebel line is you can't disable the pre flash when using live mode. so I can't use a strobe flash or a monolight. |
Why do you use live mode? Just curious cause I have rarely use mine. |
Probably so he doesn't have to look through the viewfinder for those 1000 shots. |
I'm doing a remote capture setup. I'm going to have touch screen computer that will show what the cameras live view is seeing and when someone touches the screen it will take a picture. I think I may have found a work around: Rebel series cameras don't allow you to change this setting and won't normally fire a non E-TTL II flash when live view is active. There is a way of fooling a Rebel series camera into firing a flash or studio strobe via the hotshoe with live view active: 1) Use a hotshoe extension cord and cut away most of the right hand lug so that when it goes in the hotshoe it doesn't press the pin under the metal strip in the hotshoe on the camera - if the pin is pressed the camera knows an external flash is connected and will only fire it if it is E-TTL II compatible 2) Popup the camera's flash and cover if necessary. This disables live view exposure simulation and prevents the live view images from being too dark WARNING: If you use this technique you do so entirely at your own risk. The camera is not designed to work this way and there is a risk it may be damaged" |
