Continuously improve the preventive and predictive maintenance program to reduce downtime and improve overall maintenance costs.
Oversee and direct plant projects that involve our own employees or outside contractors
Effectively handle employee issues including progressive discipline, vacation, overtime etc., according to the collective agreement.
Assist with the implementation of capital projects.
Plan and implement PM’s on equipment as required.
Arrange with suppliers to obtain and/or install equipment and parts in a cost effective manner.
Be flexible, capable and willing to be “hands on” to perform any maintenance task as the circumstances require.

PREFERRED HIRING CRITERIA
The ideal candidate should have a trade certification (electrician or millwright preferred)
Excellent knowledge of troubleshooting, adjusting or repairing of existing and new equipment including PLC’s.
Working knowledge of work orders and preventative maintenance.
A minimum of 5+ years as a maintenance supervisor in a unionized food manufacturing industries
Experience with food processing, CFIA, HACCP, Continuous Improvement Process, Six Sigma would be an asset.
Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as project management skills.
Ability to develop, foster, and work within a team environment.
Experience in working with operational budgets.
Knowledge of MS Word and Excel, & Auto Cad.
Working knowledge of refrigeration and steam generating systems
Flexibility to work alternating shifts including weekends and holidays.

5. Communicate effectively with reports, peers, Plant Operations Manager and Plant Manager to raise/discuss/resolve opportunities.
Job Requirements:
1. Bachelor's Degree required, engineering preferred.
2. 2-4 years prior experience as a Department Manager or Project Engineer is necessary.
3. Must be business minded, people and results oriented, with a strong emphasis on safety and quality.
4. Must be a self-starter with excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
5. Must demonstrate strong leadership, communication (verbal and written), decision making and people handling skills; must have the ability to work in a diverse workforce environment.
6. Ability to communicate in both English and French is an asset.

I might be able to refer you to HR in my company... we were hiring like mad for the last 6 months but it's tapered off a bit recently. We are a full service engineering consulting firm and we do EPCM's mainly in the mining mineral processing field. We also do some energy work (wind farms, hydro etc..) as well as infrastructure work. We hire a lot of jr EIT's all the time so it's not at all impossible.
