Car looks pretty repairable. New bumper, headlight, hood, windshield.. doesn't look like structural damage.

Anyone else have any additional photos of said incident?

It's hard to see at this angle and stuff and with only outside pictures, but there is more that led to "written off". lol Owner has more pictures but I don't think he will want to share as he is most likely recovering still. ;)

Vancouver's weather sucks sometimes.

yes

Hmm to me it looks like the bar entered his left head light and the force the car moving foward the bar lifted up into the windshield, tearing open the hood. Well that i what I got from just 2 pictures.

Yeah I would think so...for not securing that kinda stuff. It could be a kid riding a bike or guy just went out for a run in his neighborhood.

nosaj 05-04-2010 07:47 AM

shit...he just escaped death....
uhoh so that means hes haunted for the 2nd round :willnill:

Kim Jong Un 05-04-2010 07:52 AM

did you you guys not see that bump on the road?
it could of raise the car a bit and the bar just pry the hood right off.. i'm assuming

Greenstoner 05-04-2010 07:58 AM

school wont take responsibilty ! i gaurentee that.
My wife slipped on ice in the parking lot last year and was hurt and she went to complain to the school and they said not their problem talk to security.
she talked to security and they said not their problem talk to impark

Impark controls the parking lots and gates, so we then had to call and bitch at impark for not properly looking after the lots and salting the walk ways, but they said we had no proof that they did anything wrong so we had no case.

So needless to say, its just gunna get run around for the liabilty and the school will deny anything and everything and throw all the blame on Impark, and icbc to take care of everything !

84civicracecar 05-04-2010 09:57 AM

theres no bump in the road there, it is smooth.

that gate at natural stance is MUCH lower, about the height of the headlights/radsupport/hood.
because he drove through it... it got pushed up to the highest point of the car which happened to be the top of the firewall/dashboard.

once the car was pulled back and out the gate sagged back down to its original height and i bet you the car's suspension was quite compressed down as well from the force of that angle on the lower bar.

i didn't witness it or was i driving, but i wouldn't be suprised if the gate alone pushing the car down to the ground and wedgeing into the firewall, is what actually stopped the car, not the driver hitting the brakes.

wonder if ICBC covers stuff for final destination-esque "accidents"

That's kind of stupid, the school should take responsibility because all ground maintenance is handled by BCIT and not by Impark.

84civicracecar 05-04-2010 10:19 AM

but the gates control the parking lot which is controlled by impark....

see how thats gunna get the run around for blame and everyone is going to blame everyone else !!

!Yaminashi 05-04-2010 10:24 AM

This majorly would suck for the owner if he got the run around

I believe this is correct, I remember when I went to BCIT 9 years ago, seeing a guy in an Impark vehicle drive around unlocking and locking the gates at certain hours.

BCIT owns the property, so you'd think they should hold some liability...

I mean it should be BCIT's job to ensure their contractors do their work properly. I guarantee it's something that could be challenged in court if the STI guy wanted to take it that far...

you! 05-04-2010 11:56 AM

gate = 1
sti = 0

_TiDy_ 05-04-2010 02:18 PM

Oh wow that is just unlucky

PDA_86 05-04-2010 02:31 PM

Holy smokes... Amazing that the guy comes out with no physical injuries but hope his emotional injury heal soon from this.

typ. 05-04-2010 02:58 PM

Gate in car = more downforce!

...on a serious note.
Holy crap that's a close call. So glad he's still alive. Wouldve been brutal to see the other unfortunate ending.

Even the shittiest lawyer will be able to get this guy money in this case. Just send a letter to BCIT, Impark, and mother nature and their lawyers will be fighting each other over who is responsible. He could just let ICBC take care of it and they will sue whoever is responsible but he will most likely lose out on a bunch of money.
